What's new

TMZ reports that Kobe Bryant passed away.

I have lurked on this board on and off for close to 20 years. After reading a few comments today regarding Kobe Bryant's death and past I have decided to find another board to frequent, as the behavior I have witnessed is just what gives Jazz fans a bad rap around the league. The tasteless, immature comments are too much for me to bear. A man and his 13-year-old daughter died in a tragic accident and this is how you choose to respond? Absolutely pathetic, and it makes me ashamed to call myself a Jazz fan today. Unreal.
If you're the type of person to let a couple of people you don't know make you feel ashamed, that speaks more to you than to anyone else.

Haha, wow. Overreact much? Nobody has said anything that even remotely justifies your nonsense rambling. You don’t have time to lurk, but you have the time to write up that drivel and condemn an entire message board and/or fan base based on one or two posts on a forum? Get the funk out of here.

I did. It was in extremely poor taste. A man and his daughter died today, and this is what you decide to say.
I know you did — pretty damn weak if you ask me. Again, what exactly did I say that was just so horrific? Was it the “good riddance” comment? I’ll ask again - if I were talking about ANY OTHER rapist, would you have edited the post? Keep in mind that I have buried a daughter, and am well aware of the lifelong mourning and loss that the family will go through — it still doesn’t change the fact that he was a scumbag, and I’ll betcha it’s nice and toasty where he is now.

I think it's easy to distill a person's life to a single event and say that defines who they are, but I don't think that's particularly fair. Kobe was more than what happened in Colorado in 2004.

Of course it's not wrong to point out that Kobe did an unthinkable thing, and not everyone has to feel like they need to mourn his loss. It is worth recognizing that Kobe grew as a person since this happened. As far as I know he's the only high profile sports figure accused of sexual assault who apologized to the victim, and recognized the damage he had done. He became an ambassador for women's empowerment both within sports and without. I think he carried himself as a good person since this incident as well, and did more good in the world than I probably ever will.

My feelings about him are complicated, I could never appreciated his greatness on the court, in part because of my enduring hatred of all things Lakers, but also because of what he did to that poor girl. At this point I'm really just torn for his family. I can't stop thinking about that video of him and Gigi that went viral courtside breaking down basketball together. He was so excited for her to carry on his greatness, and it's heartbreaking that got cut short.

I'm just glad that I have a mute button for people like you. People died today. Grow up.

So, The Miller family and the Utah Jazz aren't sending thoughts and prayers out to the families of the other seven on board? Nice.
Dude, who are you to judge. They havent even released any names of anyone else in the crash. You're criticizing a condolence statement, you need help

People can react to death however they react to it.

Let's all stop judging each other and just have our own reactions.

Well, let’s just say that I’m not the one who deleted/edited the post — so now I’m not sure if I’m a coward or not.

Awesome, right? You’re welcome.

I want you all to know how sick I feel agreeing with this STD, but he’s right.

My original post said nothing except my opinion, which doesn’t conform with what leadership thinks, and it was taken down. Kind of funny that I’m the one being called a coward.

Like I said before, one less cheating rapist in the world. Change the name Kobe Bryant with “insert local rapist” and tell me that I’m off base.

Labeling him a rapist is innc

I mean, he's not technically a rapist. So, there's that. An adulterer yes, a rapist, no.

Wait, you believe he raped a woman, but everyone makes mistakes?

I have never raped a ****ing woman! I would be generous enough to posters here to assume than no one else on the forum has either.

And if this is not a good time to bring it up, when is? When can we talk about Kobe being a rapist?

There is a time and a place for such discussion, but this is not the time. It wasn't like he was a serial rapist like Cosby or Weinstein. From what I recall, the woman came freely to his room. Obviously, things got out of hand, and like I said he made a mistake. I have never raped a woman but there have been times I went farther than someone wanted. To judge his life on one mistake is not fair, and especially when something tragic like this happens, it is in very bad taste, and shows a lack of compassion, as well as arrogance, and while I'm not religious nor one to regularly quote scripture, there is much wisdom in the admonishment "to judge not lest you be judged."
