Jazz throttle the Spurs at their place game thread

Joe has had some bad nights recently. Royce is good but has some limitations.

Niang has actually done a much better job staying in front of guys and competing... he still gets his *** kicked but just less.

Pretty sure jingles Struggles when the other team takes out the center. Smaller defenders are able to use their lower body to keep Gobert away from the basket. Without the lob threat, quicker teams are better able to stay on jingles and prevent him easy looks.

no one on the staff foresaw that?

...
I think Quin just has a stubbornness when it comes to changing his rotations.

If the Jazz don't make any roster changes at the deadline I really hope they give Brantley and Morgan a chance to get some NBA reps just to see if there's something there that can help us better defend spread offenses.

I was talking defensively

I was cool with it in the first half... but he didn’t get any offensive rebounds... we might be able to punish smallball that way... second half we have to be better. I’m not sure why we don’t try guys either... like let’s give Brantley or Morgan a chance maybe.

In other news I actually think Ed was okay... got dunked on by Trey but other than that he did a couple good energy things.

I agree. Teams are going small on us. Mavs did this too. Teams are going small on us and exploiting our slower defenders. I’d like to see us match teams. Unleash some of our athletes.

Eric Gordon was hitting difficult shots. So was Brandon Ingram. DeRozan less so. The problem I have is that the Jazz are giving up a metric **** ton of free-throws to these guys. We can't seem to defend them without fouling. Maybe part of it is that the league gives a friendly whistle to stars.

Also, our whole defensive scheme is based on running guys off the 3-pt line and funneling guys to Rudy. If players decide to pull up from mid-range or from 29 feet, we don't really have a solution.

we need a better 2nd defender than the 6'4 royce. very similar to the talks that we had on our offense, if we have the 6'4 royce as our second best option on D(and no.1 option on perimeter players) it just won't cut it when we face lebron, kawhi, harden, luka, etc. in playoffs.

We probably win this game if we have favors. We’d be set if we had favors instead of Conley.

Probably, although I'm not sure Favors could be able to guard Ingram, Derozan (or when teams go small). Last year we had Royce, Crowder and even Thabo. Ingles doesn't look the same on defense. He is probably tired.

Release The Brantley!

I don't see why we even put Bradley on the floor the last two games when the Spurs and Rockets were both playing small. It was just a disaster waiting to happen.

Especially given we are not going to use Bradleys size advantage on offense by posting him on smaller players.

We were 3rd on ESPN Power Rankings. If we lose tomorrow, get ready for a HUGE drop, pretender calls, and told-ya-so's all over the place

Gordon didn’t hit difficult shots imo. Ingram hit many more tough jumpers than he normally does. Derozan hit contested twos but that’s kind of his life.

What do we make of this?
Chalk it all up to schedule? Taking the ball out of Ingles hands running the offense?

He got zero rebounds tonight... woof.

teams basically figure out the winning formula against us now. just play small since we can't switch. we can't guard the perimeter. and we can't punish those smaller teams with rebounding/post scoring. glaring weakness on our roster. and an easy gameplan to target. just makes too much sense.
