Conley is a chemistry problem and we should trade him

Other teams can sense weakness and exploit it. The job of a professional player is to exploit whatever issues they find in other teams. Right now, for whatever reason, Mountain Mike can't do it. We are in the midst of the season, he had rest. We may get flashes of peak Conley, but I am afraid this is what the Jazz really have in Mike.

Nah, he is not taking the ball from Joe. Joe still gets to run pick n' roll a lot with Rudy. As of now, Conley mostly stays in the corner while Ingles runs the play with Rudy (Clarkson or Royce on the opposite side). Conley also looks for Bojan mismatches a lot (tonight against Mills, Forbes)

He should have 3 or 4 assists at least. He had a pretty good right handed skip pass to Niang on the left corner that he missed (1st Q,3:16 left). He also found Joe on the left corner but Rudy was called for a 3 sec violation before Joe was able to score (1st Q, 5:07). Bojan missed two really good looks: one from the top of the arc after a Conley hand-off and the other in the second half on a fastbreak from the right side. He also had a good entry pass to Joe for a layup that didn't count as an assist in the first half (was surprised they didn't count it).
You did see Rudy pointing out that Conley's lack of flow on the play was the cause for the 3 second violation, right?

Well yeah

You did see Rudy pointing out that Conley's lack of flow on the play was the cause for the 3 second violation, right?

Not really. Had Joe shoot the open 3, that would be it. He decided to do a small fake and go left for the drive. It was more on Joe/Rudy.

So you didn't see Rudy pointing it out to Mike?

No. You have video?. Was he expecting a lob pass?. Anyway, Conley passed the ball to the corner to Ingles, which is a pretty good shoot but Ingles doubted and Rudy froze. So perhaps Rudy was pointing that there was another option at the rim. Video would be appreciate it, but we will never know what they discussed.

Do you have additional observations on the other plays mentioned?

I'm not worried about one play with Rudy getting a 3-sec call. I'm worried that Conley can't get to the rim, doesn't get to the free-throw line, isn't shooting 3s very well and isn't scoring much from mid-range. When he was in Memphis he put pressure on the defense, and now for whatever reason, he doesn't.

Actually, Conley did get to the free-throw line tonight, so that's an improvement.

Plus can't run the bench unit.

Honestly Mudiay was making a bigger difference.

Yeah, he looks passive. At least he was more aggressive getting to the rim tonight.

Jazz are now 12-11 when Mike plays > 20 mins. Jazz are 20-4 when he plays < 20 / doesn’t play.

Ouch. I still think it's unlikely he gets traded but you have to think the front office is at least considering it at this point. It just hasn't worked out at all.

I’m sure the Jazz coaching staff can see this , but the more Conley plays , the less effective Ingles is .

When Joe plays the point forward ... the offence runs so much better ... put Conley in and the ball just sticks

Mike just doesn’t work ...

Correlation doesn't equal causation. Mike playing over 20min coincides with our brutal part of the schedule and our bench being non-existent. As Locke pointed out, Conley had a positive +/- as a starter. Him not playing overlaps with one of the easiest schedules in the league (playing only one team over .500). And now we are playing big teams again, which is exposing some weaknesses but everyone is quick to point at Conley as the culprit.

If you look closely, our perimeter defense is at fault: Ingles, Royce and Bojan has been unable to defend big scoring threats. Even Donovan has been average at that end.
