Jordan Clarkson Extension

Somehow turning Ed Davis and this year’s first into a salary dump for Ed and a future 1st would be a homerun. I’d be thrilled just to have a tradable 1st OR Ed Davis dumped.

We definitely need to try and keep him but we also shouldn't overpay. He's been absolutely on fire recently but I don't think the level he's been playing at is sustainable, I think at some point he's going to come back down to earth. I'm not sure I'd go any higher than $11-12 million.

Honestly I'd disagree. As long as we have 3pt shooters, I dont see JC scoring in ways that are unsustainable. A large amount of his points are actually coming in the paint from breaking down defenses that dont want to leave our shooters on the perimeter. He can do that until they start to sag then he adapts and kicks to open killers on the perimeter (his asts last night show he can and will).

His 3pt %'s are inline with his last 3 seasons, so not like he's shooting out of this world compared to his career.

Right... there is definitely a limit. If he won't extend around what would be MLE then you go into free agency. I doubt any team gets wild with Jordan. The teams that have space already have guards and have big holes in other areas. I also think if we were offering the same as Atlanta or Charlotte that he'd for sure pick us.

The big danger is that another contender salary dumps then signs Clarkson. That would be a disaster. If we are certain 13 to 14 million gets him and makes him happy, just get it done. The extra 1 million doesn't really matter. Dumping Davis is the salary move that needs to happen.

If we extend Clarkson, the need for one of these guys goes down substantially.

I'm intrigued by the PF/big man market:
Marcus Morris
Gallinari
Millsap
Montrez Harrell
Bertans
Ibaka
Tristan Thompson
Jae Crowder
Derrick Favors
Baynes

Can we get one of the guys above with the MLE? If we can while keeping everything else intact, what an addition that could be. Or maybe trade Conley and our late pick to NY for Portis, Ntilikina, 2nds.
I just want Favs back at the MLE.

Clarkson is way better than those guys...

That isn't a big danger... none of the "contenders" have space or are close enough to having space to do the move you are suggesting without giving up something meaningful... more meaningful than landing JC. His market is around MLE... maybe a smidge above.

The only thing I could see is the Lakers offering him full MLE and him taking that over our 4/50ish offer. Not sure if there are hurt feelings there. Clips have Lou Will and a bunch of free agents of their own to worry about. Houston is capped the eff out. Denver has a ton of free agents and he's not a fit. Maybe Miami has interest, but I don't think they want to cut into space for the Giannis chase.

His market is limited... no need to bid against ourselves... if he has a competent agent and we have interest it could get done at a reasonable price.

I think some of those are doable at the MLE... some definitely will be below that number.

Here are some others to consider...

Jerami Grant
Christian Wood - This is the guy I'd love but his market may get frothy if he continues his strong play.
Juan Hernangomez
Dario Saric
Moe Harkless
Mason Plumlee - Just puked in my mouth a little, but he's better than what we got.
Marc Gasol - for @infection I'm not convinced, but one year MLE to be a backup 5... that ain't bad.

There are a bunch of wings I'd have interest in that are cheaper... I think we need a 4/5 or a big wing... I think Brantley or Morgan could be the answer at the four or the five. There should be something that works well for us out there.

I hope we'd get a younger guy that has potential to be a bargain and lock them up for 4 years instead of a vet on his last leg, but I'm fairly sure the front office will go the vet route... its much safer.

Mark Gasol gets the BAE. Gets a discount because he chases a title with his buddy... plus he’s already made $180M.

I think Ibaka is interesting if he’s got anything left. Can play both 4 and 5.

I do worry both guys get the one year inflated contract to stay in Toronto. Both would be intriguing though Ibaka shouldn't play a lot of 4 minutes unless the matchup is really favorable.

I'd rather go for Christian Wood. I'd also add Torey Craig and Jamychal Green to the list.

Deep down, you know we're not going for Christian Wood. It's one of two things: they don't like him and aren't interested, or they do like him and just assume he's out of their range, so they don't try.

Well, Clarkson was our MVP.....again! When he came into the game the momentum turned for us, he shot well, defend well, rebounded well.....did everything well!

Imagine how good we would be if we had Rubio playing next to him! Then Clarkson could be double teamed every play!!! 82-0!!!
