RIFT IN JAZZ LOCKER ROOM

The blaming game on Gobert is ludicrous.
Mitchell should have not added gas to the fire; hope these are not his true colors.

I agree, but I also understand where DM is coming from and I wouldn't hold it against him. He's a good person for sure. I had a friend blow up on me in a text thread yesterday over a pretty tame joke that he took really personally... was really out of character... we figured it out and apologized, but this **** is scary and has a lot of people on edge.

Not how it works... they are paying private companies for testing... I assume the government could do the same if they were willing to pay the premium.

I think most critically ill are getting treatment... its the ones that are symptomatic that aren't getting tested that would have a gripe... but its not like the NBA is at the hospital you and I go to and stealing the kits for players.
As Silver said in his speech yesterday, Jazz were not going to be allowed out of their locker room that night until they were tested. That was the Oklahoma health department that wouldn’t allow them to leave.

This. I actually do think Donovan will be fine long term. Rudy I’m not sure.

So critically ill people are finding it hard to get tested, but athletes get to jump to the front of the line even if they aren't sick? Terrific.
The medical facility where my primary care practices sent me a message saying they can test people, but of course you have to make an appointment and exhibit all the classic symptoms, and this is in Davis County. Not sure where you live, but I know it's nearby from your posts, so apparently they're getting the tests here.

Here’s an interview from Andy today on ESPN 700. Good listen. Talks about the rift a bit. Says some are optimistic he talks to because there’s a lot of time between now and more basketball. Says others he’s talked to don’t think the future of the Jazz consists of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. I think the Jazz choose Donovan if it comes down to that, but how will you feel if this actually does end this era of Jazz basketball?

And you’ve been beating the drum of Donovan leaving as soon as he can. Why choose him? Rudy’s the one who’s shown long-term commitment.

This split would hurt. I never thought the DWill/Boozer teams had a real chance, but I do think that Rudy and DM (with a third player that is not currently on the roster) can get there. But yes - out of the two - you gotta keep DM. He’s younger, bigger fan base, a stronger influence in recruiting others, etc.

Because I’m not entirely serious in regards to it. I’m skeptical, but I do think Donovan has shown a fair amount of commitment to SLC, more than any other player in his first 3 seasons. Donovan is younger, is going to sign a 5 year extension. Is more popular, and has a far wider skill set. More popular with teammates from what I’ve seen. I also think if right now if Donovan is that upset if you just side with him (Jazz have kinda fallen silent and allowed DM to vent frustration so have they chosen a side already?) and show a real commitment to him during this situation I think it will strengthen that relationship between him and the franchise.

Judging by Andy’s comments here it does appear some (which I would imagine his connections are close to the Jazz) do feel like this may not be fixable and those that do know Donovan’s very upset with Rudy right now and hope that time just heals that. I’m sure Rudy isn’t going to be happy with most of his teammates in the after-math of this either. I question whether giving Rudy a super-max is at all smart too.

Here’s what DM is mad about IMO, and by all reports Rudy was pretty careless over it so DM probably does have legitimate reason to be upset. I think Don is upset because he had just seen his family and such and was worried about them being infected. I think he’s worried about this being a stain on his career forever (it won’t be, after a lot of people get it and as time goes on no ones going to care much about his getting this). He mentioned this in the Twitch feed when he was playing basically joking the things he’s going to be known for now is losing ROY and getting corona-virus. I understand why Donovan’s upset. Now if he can’t get over that, there were deeper issues (there were) with their relationship.

Idk, I would hate to see Rudy go, but it’s becoming increasingly clear Donovan was very upset about this, and I think honestly still is upset.

I don’t think the COVID-19 issue is really the problem. It’s just a manifestation of what I’ve suspected previously — that they really aren’t that close. And there seem to be some basketball issues, as it’s amazing that the team has chucked so much while missing Rudy is wide open.

The situation report is this:

  1. Rudy did something in the locker room and then something with the reporters which he admits was irresponsible and has apologized for.
  2. By most accounts, some of his teammates are livid, apoplectic with him.
  3. He is a free agent soon, and could command a Supermax contract.

Analysis: I’ll forego my usual empiricist jokes beyond saying that we were not in the locker room so we have no genuine knowledge of the situation. But given points 1, 2, and 3, we have to be prepared for the possibility that Rudy now wants to leave the Jazz, or the management is considering trading him, or that some of his teammates would like to see him gone. I’m personally a big fan of both Mitchell and Gobert, and would love to see them both stay and lead us to the title. But things look pretty dicey in the locker room, at least from our distant, reporter mediated vantage point.

Local reporters have got more info since for sure. Tony Jones basically said he wasn’t sure immediately after WOJs report. Tony and Andy now basically say the issue is fairly significant. I do think part of this is Donovan and Rudy have never really clicked. I do wonder if part of Donovan doesn’t want the Jazz super-maxing Rudy and attaching his prime to Rudy. Neither Rudy or Donovan have been all that happy this season and I think much of it is between those two. I do think the Jazz may have to choose. It feels more to me like Donovan wants the Jazz to move on from Rudy more than it feels like Donovan wants to leave. Donovan is cool with the rest of his teammates by all accounts I’ve seen. And all his teammates are just kinda sitting back trying not to take a side. It’s Donovan vs Rudy right now....and I think Donovan wins that one. I also agree with you. Rn I don’t even see why Rudy would want to stay at this point tbh.

Oneye, thanks for the thoughtful reply.

End the season. Too much **** is going on with this team to make a deep playoff run.
Lol I just watched the re-run game they ran tonight. That team had a lot of flaws but it was a fun team to watch. Rookie Donovan was so awesome. His post game interview reminded me how amazing his personality truly is. He’s not as joyous as he was then. You can see he’s lost some of the joy he used to play with. Which obviously happens, he’s still got joy but I see why we fell so in love with him.

This sounds about right to me. But it’s also going to be about what each player can get the Jazz in return, right? Gobert might get us someone like Tatum, but would DM? So then the question is: which player could you see leaving l, and who would you like to see be the replacement. I mean, Tatum and DM as a duo would be incredible.
