The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

It's a very weird impulse to react to everything that's happening with a reflexive defense of Donald Trump personally. Is there any real argument that this is going well, or in any comparable to another crisis in our lifetimes?

The reality with this virus is that the federal government probably under-reacted for high-risk areas like New York and San Francisco, and probably over-reacted for places like Utah, Kansas and North Carolina where the infection rate is extremely low.

Given that the virus spreads from person to person without their even knowing (since they don't show symptoms) the only way to prevent the spread is social distancing, and the government has been very aggressive about achieving that. In the absence of an approved drug, the treatment protocol is essentially the same as it would be for pneumonia or other respiratory distress. There need to be enough hospital beds and respirators to handle cases that require intensive care. New York and California are at risk of reaching their hospital capacity, so that's the problem that needs to be addressed most urgently. It looks like with the hospital ship and the Army Corps of Engineers building makeshift hospital capacity, at least some of that will be addressed.

New York is an absolute nightmare during a pandemic, not just because of people's dependence on taxis, subways and elevators, but because these large apartment buildings with central air are almost tantamount to the Princess cruise ships for spreading the virus. There's just no such thing as social distancing in Manhattan. I expect that New York alone will account for the majority of cases and deaths when the dust settles.

Whether this administration does well from here will depend on whether it can help mitigate the short and long-term economic consequences, which appear to me to be worse than the health crisis itself.

FWIW, The Hill was reporting this morning that Trump's approval rating has gone up 10 points in the last week, from 45% to 55%.

How about not worrying about Obama and his admin's response to H1N1.

I worry about the media kissing Obama's *** during a worse health crisis and dragging down Pres. Trump at every turn. The recent example is this question from an NBC reporter. No one is showing the politically charged question he asked before the one it shows.The media got the sound bite it wanted and is running with it now. The media is dragging the country and our economy into the toilet.

Politically charged? Did Trump not “put a positive spin on things” for weeks? I mean, I can go back over the last month and cite all the stupid **** he’s said about the virus if you need me to.

Is that Trump's overall approval rating or the approval of his handling of COVID-19 this week vs last week.

FWIW I approve of the fact that Trump is no longer calling COVID-19 a hoax.
 
If this was Obama and he did the same exact things as Trump, CNN, MSNBC, and other sites besides FoxNews would be applauding his effort. And FoxNews would be bashing his effort. There is no such thing as unbiased reporting nowadays.

The reality is only 237/18,755 people so far have died from the coronovirus. That's only 1.26%. And probably at least 5 times the people actually have the virus, but exhibit little or no symptoms. So statistically speaking, the majority of people are overreacting.

Right. Except Trump was in fact promoting false hope, and that's why Alexander's questions caused him to melt down. Furthermore, the question Trump blew up on was a softball question delivered on a silver platter. Alexander gave the president the opportunity to say something reassuring, and Trump blew it. So please, don't be ridiculous....

Alexander's question was completely appropriate, not politically charged at all. Like Harry Truman said, "if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen". It is YOU who are leaving out relevant parts of the briefing!! YOU left out what happened immediately before Alexander's "false hope" question.

Why the hell would anybody think Trump must somehow be protected from tough questions? News flash: it comes with the job. Duh!

Trump, pissed that Alexander recognized false hope when he saw it, blew his chance to show empathy with a softball gift wrapped and handed to him.

Is it true that the Justice Department has lost Flynn's records? Flynn is no Jack the Ripper. I doubt he would have gone through all of this if he hadn't been associated with Trump. They fried the guy mostly because they believed breaking him would be a key to taking down the president.
Who is "they?”. The judge and or jury that convicted and sentenced him?

This isn't true. If Obama called it a hoax when it clearly wasn't he would get criticized.

obama was criticized relentlessly for one time saying something about keeping doctors and for wearing a tan suit. This revisionist history Trumpers are telling about Obama’s 8 year honeymoon with the media is laughably false. We all remember the criticisms. From pastors and ACORN to Obamacare and stimulus to birth certificates and debt to shutdowns to latte salutes to Sylondra to tan suits and Jimmy Fallon to Ukraine and ISIL and Benghazi. Obama was attacked relentlessly. The problem is, most of the stuff he was criticized for pales in comparison to trump.
