Coronavirus

Thats a dumb graph. We have ~ six times the population of Italy. ~ Eight times that of Spain.
We have about five times the population of S Korea too. Having a larger population doesn't necessarily mean we should be expected to have the quickest spread of infection.

You’re picking one country whose gov’t is nothing like ours and clearly has hidden the real numbers.

Edit: Was reading to my daughter. Could’ve sworn you said China. Nevertheless, South Korea is an entirely different culture, gov’t to a degree and is a very young country.

South Korea's government is quite similar to ours, and this is the first I've heard of them hiding their true numbers.

“yeah well... impeachment distracted trump, our large pop size, and something something... we’re doing a great job!”

Another detail:

South Korea and the United States has their first cases on the same day. They reacted far better than we. It’s well known that Donald ignored intelligence reports for two months.

Being younger would help with their death rate, for sure, but I don't see how being a younger country would help or hinder transmission necessarily. The reason most experts have given for their success seems to be that they had a competent and swift government response with testing and contact tracing.

There are a lot of factors here, but in an alternate reality where we had prioritized mass testing and taken steps to limit spread weeks earlier we wouldn't be in the situation we are today.

I don’t disagree with that. I also think the situation is a bit more complex than we’re making it, myself included.

I really think we underrate how much of a difference it’d make if we had a functioning executive branch

Trump is dumb. He has said some dumb things like he usually does about this. That's low on the issues in the USA in regards to this. You really need to think about some issues beyond through your Trump filter. Those who support Trump aren't stopping because of this. Those that don't like him already don't like him. Him choosing which states to send support to right now based on how nice they are to him is a truly awful thing.

Many countries handled this poorly. China, especially locally handled it very badly. Then the central government stepped in and took strong decisive action. Some of this actions seemed to have helped but are also awful in different ways.

I'm glad the USA government isn't using this as a time to take away citizens rights or give their position more power. My guess is that's something Obama would do.

we are the world’s lone super power and our president slashed CDC funding and left multiple key positions unfilled. He then ignored intelligence reports for 2 months warning him about this virus. He then ignored the CDC’s own handbook on pandemics. and this happened at our press conference today:

I think the #1 reason why we’re seeing such an awful pandemic is because of America’s lack of leadership in the world.

example #37,947,642:

like seriously, what has this administration done well?

Nah, the number one reason is because the virus exists, the number 2 reason is because China blundered it early and didn't contain it, and the 3rd is because of lack of knowledge early about it. Trump is on the list somewhere.

Sorry thriller but you are really obsessed. You actually remind me of some Mormons or other really strongly religious person. They have to run everything through a filter first and relate it back to your religion. For you it's Trump.

From someone that never voted for Trump, has never liked or supported him, and will never vote for him to posts on him are exhausting. Especially in a thread like this where you clearly have an agenda and trying everything you can to try and make him look bad. Do you mumble Trump over and over in your sleep?

I see where you're coming from, in an alternate reality "insert politician here" administration may have ended up with a poor response to this crisis as well. The dysfunction in our government goes beyond Trump, though his temperament makes it a lot easier to see.

But we live in this reality, and Trump made the mistakes Thriller is pointing out. We don't really have control over what China does, but at least in theory we can hold our own leadership accountable for their failings.
