With Trump it wasn't about Republican vs. Democrat. It was Washington political establishment vs. non-establishment. That's why Trump won, despite a number of established Republicans opposing him. It's also why Trump has taken a meaningful percentage of Bernie Sanders' supporters from 2016.

Republicans have since gotten behind Trump and pushed their conservative agenda. They've used him like a battering ram.
 
It will never happen, but I wish they'd put a national vote in the hands of the people to vote on term limits. I don't want any senator regardless of what letter is by their name representing a state for 40+ years. Same with those elected to the House - give them a few terms and then you're done.

I'm distrusting of politicians in general - too many special interests, lobbyists, etc. all putting money in the hands of people whether it's in the name of the NRA or Planned Parenthood. Votes are bought and sold - it's big league eBay.

No politician is really on your side - they're trying to get fat with cash and power just like the rest of us.
 
Why would we want to shrink the government during a pandemic or shortly after? Unemployment estimates are already in double digits. We’re still 12-18 months from a vaccine. Government can and must increase or there will be a lot more death and poverty in this country.

the time to shrink government spending and raise taxes to pay off debt was 3 years ago. But republicans instead decided to slash budgets related to pandemics, defund Obamacare, and give corporations gigantic tax cuts.

This campaign is going to be a bit different though - people legitimately hated Hillary. I don't think people think the same as Biden - old-fashioned, running on E, etc., but they don't vilify him. Many of Biden's strengths will help him in the Midwest. And don't expect not to hear 'I was a boy from Scranton, PA' all the time - those 20 electoral votes and one more swing state would send him over 270.

He wins with PA plus FL. But besides that he needs 3 swing states.

It ended up in a close election with one candidate winning the electoral and the other candidate winning the popular vote.

I have a simple question for you.
Do you think it was mostly Republicans or democrats who voted for Trump last election?

It's ALWAYS about repub vs dem.

If trump would have ran as the Democratic candidate last time around then tons of Democrats would have voted for him.

Long term government intervention, distorting free markets, is only going to increase death and poverty. If the government plans to intervene and require isolating until we have a vaccine (12-18 months......), we are all screwed. The government doesn't create, it only takes. As such, it can't support significant amounts of people for long periods of time. The free market has a much better track record of correcting economic turmoil.

All this said, I would be happy with a government that doesn't get so bloated with debt that it negatively impacts the lives of my children and grand-children.

If you can provide examples of "capitalism gone wrong" that have led to more death, poverty, pain, and suffering than the countries I listed above, please feel free to enlighten me.

Anyone who things this country can survive on monthly $2 Trillion stimulus packages until an antidote is available is out of their mind. I understand the need for immediate, temporary assistance (I'm not a monster, lol), but the plan needs to be to put productive people back to work as soon as possible.
