And this is one thing I will say:
People like Kyrie didn't like living in LeBron's shadow and, to some extent, he recognized that perhaps he took his opportunities for granted. Donovan arrived here when it was still Rudy's team and though he's been the most prominent face to the franchise, he's still in some ways in Gobert's shadow where Donovan may not feel like this venture is purely his. Though there may be parts of him that wants to feel that his success has been independent and self-made, and like many different people in business that they want to "clear the deck," so to speak, when they move a business forward so they feel that it's purely "their ship," this may not prove to be beneficial for him in the long run. I believe Donovan has some humility and smartness underneath all this, but he's obviously been influenced by his rapid stardom. I think when he looks back on things, especially as legacies are built more on winning than about media appearances, instagram followers, and twitter likes, that eventually he's going to recognize, and wish, that he'd handled this situation a bit differently. I think him recognizing wasted opportunity is something that will become apparent to him in hindsight, and it may be something he looks upon with regret, especially if/when his legacy doesn't peak as high as he'd like and he realizes he had a better shot to go higher with Rudy.
