Jazz need internal growth

If Memo starts than Millsap cannot say anything about moving back to the bench... and becoming 6th man of the year.
Sure he can. There aren't many teams that bring their best player off the bench. Memo + AJ would be an absolute turnstile.

Reading that just reminded me of the log jam we have at the 4-5. Millsap isn't a 3 and Favors certainly isn't either.
I would be shocked whenever next year starts if all three (Millsap, Jefferson, Okur) are still on the team.

CANNOT imagine Memo starting in place of Millsap. Can't even fathom.
Here's a concept: whichever two of the four (AJ, EK, MO, PM) perform the best on the court get to start. Not the best in practice, not in the locker room, the best on the court.

In other words, if AJ scores but plays even worse D than Okur, then let PM and (MO or EK) start most of the time. (If Sloan didn't have the cojones to bench an eight-figure cornerstone, then I don't see Corbin doing so, but one can only dream about a play-for-performance policy.)

I can definitely see Millsap be the team leader, just like Udonis Haslem is the "team-leader" of the Miami Heat; and quite frankly, the difference between him and Haslem is that Millsap WILL be playing in clutch time, and hes probably one of our most clutch players. Therefore, even if hes a bench player 2 years down the line, I can still see him be an effective leader because hell be there for the team when we need him most, AND he has a history of bailing us out of some ridiculous situations. Not to mention the guy is an absolute class-act, and a great example of a professional athlete.

Is Millsap really one of our most clutch players? I mean, I remember the glory that was The Miami game, but other than that, when has he come up clutch? I maybe just can't remember, so feel free to tell me how it is.

He completely took over a game at Houston in the 4th Quarter last year. So he can, but not your "go to guy" in the 4th.

Maybe, this year was so pointless I can't really call anything anyone did that happened after Sloan and Dwill left as "clutch", since nothing mattered.

Millsap I think came up big twice against HOU and one was in HOU early in the year when DWill was still on the team, but I think while he can be clutch he is not the guy you want as the first option/creator, he's the 3rd or sometimes 2nd option (if he's on) you'd want to dish the ball off to.

He's the Jazz's most complete and efficient offensive player right now (it's not really all that close). He should have had far more touches last season.

I'm sure you'd agree that with more touches his efficiency would drop some, hard to say how much though. Also I think it is in part because he was put in situations he was comfortable with and had DWill for example to help set him up, so if he had to do more on his own in spots/situations he wasn't as familiar with that would be a truer test if he is being under valued.

Oh and I love Millsap and I'm not doubting you saying he was by far the most efficient Jazz player and hopefully he'll have more help this year because if Millsap is the most complete and efficient (best) Jazz player that likely means another not so good season, IMO.

Yep, precisely the game I was thinking of. Absolutely destroyed Scola, I remember reading (and laughing) at the Rockets forum of how they wanted to trade Scola for Millsap ASAP.

In fact, most of the "one-player takes over the end of the game" instances weve had last season involved Millsap. Sure DWill got a game-winner, and so id Al Jeff, but I think Millsap was the only player who basically singlehandedly took over a game in clutch time.

Another fact we arent addressing is that there was a statistic posted for last season, saying that Al Jefferson was either #1 or #2 for most clutch centers in the NBA. Will try to find link.
