What's new

Players only meeting.

They have put their resources into all sorts of youth programs and schools and other "preventative" measures. Even "bad guy" Boogie Cousins did a ton for the youth in this area and facilitated all sorts of conversations with police and youth in Alabama. Did that work? If not should they quit doing that?

Its a snowball... Kaep helped start things... the players sitting out yesterday had an impact. They are telling the owners they need more help... I'm going to guess all 30 owners made important calls yesterday... now owners in other sports leagues are doing the same. Maybe it amounts to nothing... but they tried and the cost was almost nothing.
Moreover, they now have their hands back on the Strike Lever.

So the 300 million dollar investment the league and it's owners made towards black communities and entrepreneurship is doing nothing? Interesting.
$300 million from 30 billionaires over the course of 10 years. $1 million per year per owner. So what the same amount you pay end of bench scrubs every year? Not exactly a huge gesture.

BLM the ones whos name is on the NBA court has made over a billion. Where has that money gone?

Again sincere question. Schools? Communities? Libraries? Sports programs?

I believe the Police want to be the do-gooders/heroes in society, but.....there's something wrong when you are bringing the hammer down all the time. Why threaten to shoot someone, if they are not in the middle of violence? Why are they freaking out? Are they conditioned to think that only in black neighbors does violence occur? Or maybe they need a lot of training. Maybe they spend the majority of the time in front of minorities and if they spent their time in white neighborhoods they would be bringing the hammer down there too. I don't know, I am just asking. Maybe its the culture? Show eveyone who is boss? Dude what about the constitution, it should be more important than their jobs or quotas.....

Most police generally want to help, most police are good people who are overworked in a sucky environment.

Police get assigned where the crime is. Unfortunately that is largely in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Many of those neighborhoods, depending upon the area, are populated by minorities. Most of the crime that happens here is minority on minority because that is the demographic distribution reality. (This is an action item that should be worked on.)

Police use force because dealing with criminals and crime is largely freaking dangerous. Police get killed and hurt a lot. A lot of the time it is for stupid things like domestic disturbances. People call 911 for idiotic reasons drawing armed police officers into places that they just don't belong. If your kid is being rebellious, this isn't a problem for the police to freaking solve. (Culling out what police will respond to and in what manner is also something that can be worked on.)

Police don't have a special hard on for shooting black people. White dudes get shot a lot too. Just last week in Tucson. Dude lived, but was lucky. Could just have easily have been dead. Dude was firing at the police. National news media only report incidents where the person shot was black. https://www.azcentral.com/story/new...pursuing-officers/5644360002/?ocid=uxbndlbing
(getting the media to get facts before reporting and giving proper context would also be helpful.)

Generally police departments cannot afford to have officers employed where there is little crime. You don't WANT more officers than you need for safeties sake either. Getting that mix is very hard, because once in a while extra officers are REALLY needed. Current solution is overtime hours and it is far from optimal. (this is another action item.)

Saying all police offers or even a majority of police officers are power hungry zealots is just as damaging as saying all black males are thugs. A lot of police offers ARE minorities. Are people assuming that they have bought into systematic racism and enjoy shooting black people? You can't expect people to honestly work with you when your rhetoric is vile, overheated, and attached to political points not really attached to the issue. (communication and vilification is a problem and something that CAN be worked on.)

The real problem is that many of these systematic issues are used as political cudgels. Once an issue is fashioned into a weapon the chances of it getting solved are practically nil, because the daily 2 minutes of hate is a lot easier to manage than hard work and compromise.

No one is asking the billionaires to give up their money. It's their damn influence that is the most important. They each have thousands of friends including those in politics. Plus any of their gestures are highly noticeable and influential in their communities. The money is secondary on low on the list.

To me, canceling games from any sport literally does nothing other than put the athletes on a holier than thou pedestal.

I don't know one single person who supports social injustice.

Shaq said it best last night. Not playing a game isn't going to make a racist not racist anymore.

Now, with more information released on the shooting, Jacob Blake seems like he went to retrieve or reach for the knife in the car. The guy acted and has acted like a grade A moron and criminal and people are acting like the cops were like, hey, that guy is black, we better go shoot him in the back.

I'm all for change. I'm 100% for better policing. I'm also for don't be a criminal moron. I will teach my kid not to fight cops, walk away from them and reach into his car unless he wants to get shot. Wish more people were for ALL of these things too.

Election years are one hell of a year.

I have mixed feelings about this. My view of the world really changed over the last year, I was diagnosed with cancer in December and have gone through hell trying to survive. I really have no patience for this grandstanding nonsense. The important things in life start at home with your family and loved ones.
I spent dec, Jan, Feb, March, April, may, locked down because I am/ was extremely high risk. I guess what I am feeling is that there are better ways of effecting change. Sitting here watching people literally burn down their own community just didn't make me want to be a part of whatever they were trying to accomplish.
Now watching these guys literally take their balls and go home does nothing but make me feel like they are just virtue signaling.
They have a very unique platform that they are just going to waste.
I'm really sorry to hear, man. Puts things into perspective. Keep fighting!

This. A hundred times this. If you read the ESPN play-by-play of last night, the Bucks' owner at one point called the Wisconsin governor on his personal phone and asked him to talk to players for 3 hours. That is incredibly telling. That is the reality of being a rich white man in America. You have a direct freaking line to the highest levels of government. For all his money and fame, do you think Giannis had the number?

We don't know, but the answer is unlikely to be "nothing".
Small changes happen all the time... large changes can take generations... doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take the incremental steps.

There were a few examples of small changes but some people think there isn’t a difference if the dead don’t rise.

It’s like they want more than a fancy statement and a check.

Imagine your wife asked for help with the kids and you gave her a nice card and a $20 bill. That should do it right?

Racism is a major problem, but truth bomb....it is hard to pin down all the time. Therefore, it becomes a us versus them. We need more direct conversions if you want people to improve. Yes police violence is super clear that it is wrong, but when the details get murky then what is it? Let's chase away the murkiness and let it not be about virtue signaling but get to the concrete nitty gritty. Otherwise the problem will be never-ending.

Fairness in pay?
Equal treatment from credit agencies?
Better chances at jobs?
Or is it just walking on the other side of the street. That's not good, but it is not something to fix. It is like butter, if you put the squeeze and control on too tight you loose your moral ground.

Yeah, anyone who believes antifa (which means anti-fascism, which is what this country stands for) is any sort of organized threat...it either grossly misinformed or willfully ignorant and immediately loses all credibility.

They have social media pages to organize the gatherings, so these people aren't just randomly meeting in the streets. Luckily most are dumber than a box of rocks. A recent exploit of theirs was trying to use quick dry cement to lock police inside and burn them alive.

Then we have this, Antifa trying to reenact a viking shield wall to stop police.

Now you tell me, what has kneeling and a one game haitus changed?
