That's what he is if we get him to play at a good level again. You don't even need to get him to play at his prime level. Just get him back to his shape from before last year's injury riddled season and he will be more than worth it.
Also a terrific floor-reader/passer.

What if we could get Ed Davis to play at a good level again? What if we can ask Karl Malone to come out of retirement? There is a process in basketball or any professional sports that simply can not be reversed. Especially we are talking about a player like Batum who's been haunted by both age and injuries

He's a very versatile wing. People forget how good he used to be because he got stuck in Charlotte. He's obviously not close to the player he used to be in his prime and he's had some injuries, but I think it's very doable to get him back to a playable level where he can help us.

Plus stretch 4s and defenders make 5-7m a year at the low end. Can’t be picky at minimum wage. Batum is as good a bet as anyone.

He's 31! Not 40! Ed Davis has never been the player Batum used to be. He had an injury riddled season last year. Him getting to playable NBA level is not some impossible feat. It's more about confirming he's healthy than about doing some amazing reversal of time. I'd rather us sign him than pretty much any other min level guy from the remaining wings.

That’s actually what he would project as... if he gives a ****. That’s always been the issue.

Well worth the look at the minimum.
When an athlete's body conditions deteriorated the way like he did, it really doesn't matter if he gives a **** or not. Dude is done.

He was injured, man! His "body conditions" didn't deteriorate... he was injured and tried to play injured. Just have to confirm he's back healthy...

What if it means that we have to cut NWG to make space, though??

Tony Jones is saying the Jazz really want to see what their young wings can do - high hopes for Miye Oni and Elijah Hughes. I'm kind of curious myself.

They want to see what they can do so much that Quin played Oni grand total of 14 minutes in the playoffs(all of it in garbage time). In a series where we were getting torched by an opposing ballhandler.

He’s had suuuuch a long and productive offseason, doe

Yeah but that was 14 minutes in 7 games. This season we should be on pace to see him for 164 minutes, which is more than 10 times that amount. We’ll have plenty of time to get a good look at a butcher’s *** by sticking our head up there.

I'll go ahead and say it out loud. I think bringing back Favors in free agency and drafting Udoka in the 1st round are part of a contingency plan in case the Jazz can't can't come to an agreement with Rudy. I think there's a certain deal that the Jazz are willing to offer Rudy, and beyond that they'll trade him or let him walk. This narrative that the Jazz "need to improve their defense when Rudy is off the floor" is valid, but it's also a cover story.

The Raptors just did something similar with Fred VanVleet. They drafted Malachi Flynn (a FVV wannabe) and just gave VanVleet an exorbitant contract. If that negotiation didn't work out for the Raptors, they would have let Van Vleet walk (or executed a sign-and-trade) and given the backup PG role to Flynn.

It’s really the only thing that makes sense.

If they’re willing to throw around $30M on Favors, even under a scenario where they think Gobert would return, and they’re willing to spend a lot on JC, I doubt the difference between them and Gobert is so large dollar wise that they wouldn’t cover it. The FO is all about their guys. They would have cut JC out of the equation before thinking there’s a dollar amount too high for Rudy.

Plus Rudy has been liking things on the twitters about our moves.

I agree. Rudy agrees a deal or we trade Rudy to Atlanta. They have already built a team better suited to support a Trae/Rudy team.

Rudy for Collins, Capella, and picks. We could then use the full BAE and avoid the luxury too.

If I'm Rudy, I'm looking at what Mike Conley is making this year, and that's my starting point.

In other words, resolving the Rudy situation is the #1 issue for the Jazz this off-season. Everything they're doing centers around that right now. They may also be dealing with Rudy before they finish with Donovan's extension.
