[Woj] Donovan Mitchell signs 5/195M max designated rookie extension with the Jazz

He will though. Don't at all count on him playing this contract out. He got all the money, and also got a player option to leverage a trade even sooner.

You're wrong. The front office not just flat out denying the PO is inexcusable in this scenario.

It means he got the most amount of money possible guaranteed and the player option to leverage a trade ASAP. Again, he is the first player to successfully get this, which means he really really pushed for it. Its almost 2021. He will be gone by 2024. Book it.
All this about DM being the first to get the player option and you haven't addressed that Tatum got the exact same contract like 10 minutes later.

It was well longer than 10 minutes, and yes once the Jazz caved, it will become the norm. Notice how Fox did not get one? The Jazz should have never allowed the PO, and he must have been refusing refusing to sign to get it. Because it was not normal at all.

Yeah straight up regarding the player option you’d be an idiot not to if you were a player. If you get injured, you pick it up. If you’re killing it then you opt out for a bigger contract. Tons of sense for a player, if your smart it’d be questionable not too push for it. Stop belly aching.

You're a straight up idiot to give it as a team in this situation, or to think it's a good thing as a fan.

Don is so much different than Gordon. At very least if he wants out he will let us know and be straight with us. We won’t lose him for nothing... players don’t stay forever. Enjoy him while we got him... he’s fun as hell.

Pls delete your account. I’m pretty sure you promised to do so under these circumstances. It’s really just time for you to gtfo.

Tatum’s negotiations were clearly happening simultaneously to Mitchell’s. Any idiot would see that. Unfortunately, you’ve gone beyond that threshold. Rip.

I’m not saying it’s great for team or fans, but hardly a surprise a player wants it. Prime example of how beneficial this is is Hayward’s latest opt out. If he didn’t have that and got injured again this year he’d get significantly less on open market. However he was able to opt out with the assurance of one last bag and now if he gets injured again no worries. Prime example. Idk why the jazz would really want to cause friction in negotiations with their star player. If LHM was here I doubt he’d put up a fight, and he was a world class negotiator. Gotta be a win-win deal. Avoid bad blood. Jazz get phenomenal play and PR with Donovan around.

The avoiding bad blood thing is giving him the super-max money eligibility in the deal which they also didn’t have to do. They gave him this deal a year earlier than they had to, super max eligibility throughout the length of the deal, and all the years of security they could throw at him. If there’s bad blood over saying “no, no player option, we’re doing all this” then **** him. He’s a restricted free agent, not a free agent. When you as the team have leverage you use it, because he’s never going to cut you any breaks no matter how nice you treat him, and the Jazz literally gave him everything they could here, literally every single thing while his side didn’t give an inch. Everything about this contract is perfect for him, and not great for the team.

So you are saying the jazz were the last bastion of hope the owners had against players deciding when they leave a team?

Um....ok.
