Just thinking back to last Winter, I don’t believe a single pond in the state was ever deemed safe enough for skating. Which is unusual, but the Winters have been warmer overall. Hardly any snow either. The usual rule of thumb, at least here in RI, is that colder winters mean less snow, warmer winters more snow. I don’t know if that seems counterintuitive, but that’s how it usually works. Colder winters tend to be drier. Last winter was unusual in being both much warmer, and relatively snow free. But I guess the greater warmth meant more rain. Anyway, when the ponds are not safe enough to skate, you see kids playing street hockey everywhere. It’s still fun, and helps maintain skills. And they all dream of attending one of the best high school hockey programs in the country:
