What's new

Coronavirus

It's booming. We had 4 in my facility all year. Since October 1st, we have had 8 cases. Luckily none have spread at work, but the cases just keep coming.

About 15-20% of the usa population refuses to take this vaccine no matter what. I would call those anti-vaxxers. This vaccine has at various times had upwards of more than 50% saying they would not take it. That number has improved but I would generally say roughly 1/2 the population has some level of distrust/suspicions of the vaccine mostly based on false information.
I think their mistrust is mostly based on a media that has proven itself incredibly biased and willing to hide the truth.

My mom just tested positive. She's 55 and in great shape so I'm not too worried. Just has cold like symptoms so far.

You mean, as opposed to all those politicians, preachers, and protestors telling them they just need to catch the virus to develop herd immunity (which is not how you ever get to herd immunity)?

But not the media that you watch/read though right?
Your media is unbiased and honest I'm sure.

I miss the good ol days back when America was great (at least according to maga folks anyways) when all we had was mainstream media and we all pretty much agreed that what we saw on the news was true and we were all getting our news from the same place (the mainstream media)

Today's multifaceted and bloated media just leads to a million different "facts" and "truths" and nobody agrees about anything anymore.

It is funny though that the maga cult hate the mainstream media while at the same time wish that america was "great" like it was back when mainstream media had a monopoly on news.

My mom is cranky and not feeling well, but doing good. Her symptoms came in a hurry but they’ve stabilized and she hasn’t gotten any worse over the last 36 hours or so.

One of her best friends is a different story. Her mother died, and her daughter-in-law came to the funeral sick. Turned into a super spreader event. Their entire nuclear family got it and all of the kids spouses… And now my mom‘s friend is being moved to the ICU today.

This is the closest one for me that has gotten serious. I grew up two houses away.

All media has bias. Sometimes that bias becomes so great that they blatantly misinform their listeners. It is a major disservice to the public. It does not surprise me that the more they are caught in obvious lies, the less that the public tends to trust them. We would all be better off with a much better and more transparent media. I think things are unfortunately headed in the opposite direction. We are getting a more biased and arrogant media who believes that it is their role to adjust the facts to fit the narrative that they want to promote.

We will get the media we ask for. Reuters, the Associated Press, and NPR are all still around, and still putting out content that is largely unbiased. If we choose to ignore them for MSNBC/Fox/etc., then we are choosing the biased media over the unbiased.
