Protestors storm capital

But @The Thriller never said the violence at BLM protests was justified. He said the BLM protests were justified. I’m sure you can recognize the difference, the vast majority of BLM protestors engaged in no violence and destruction whatsoever. The insurrectionists’ violence, in contrast to BLM issues, was based on a Big Lie: that the election had been stolen from Trump. That Big Lie contains no truth whatsoever.
Not excusing any actions here... but people genuinely believe this election was stolen. So these people are misguided, brainwashed, dumb, or some combo of everything but the fact that they were protesting what they believed to be an unfair election would be rational. The violence and means they pursued aren't justified. To me 90% of the blame needs to be with the lie makers.

Now maybe some of these folks are just straight racist and not redeemable and would protest something even if it wasn't this. Its wild how much people will believe politicians and media just because they say something is a fact.

He also referred to the the "protests" at the capital. Lol

@One Brow
The Tough Day to Be Law Enforcement thread is too long for me to look for the comments that show people justifying the bad actions of of the summer protesters. I'm sure if I did, you'd argue that's not what they meant or said so, yeah, no thank you.

Well, now that you've stepped back from 'doing the same things the Capitol protesters did' to just 'bad actions', we might even agree.

No doubt much of the blame (most of it?) falls on the lie makers (Trump, Fox News, Republicans) and those spineless who know better but want to to along with it for power (Republicans) but doesn't some of the blame also fall on Republican voters? They are openly protesting with white supremacists. They "feel" like their country is slipping away over what, gay marriage? A black president? How petty and shallow are these people? They're advocating for the overthrow of our government... Through violent means. How and why is this deemed acceptable?

If this doesn't doesn't immediately cause White Christian churches and white voters to self-reflect, I don't know what will. What type of government do Republicans want? A white Evangelical Fundamentalism? Fascism? Oligarchy? Autocracy? Theocracy? What do they want? We didn't get here by accident obviously. The actions of this past week have been months and years in the making.

I’m not sure where to put this, so this thread will have to do.
My father in law just came and rescued me from the hospital (so his wife could hang out with new grand daughter) and took me to Gunnies in Orem. Gunnies is a guns/ammo/dumbass store, in case you were wondering.
I have never been so embarrassed to be anywhere public like I was there. The sheer amount of idiocy oozing out of that place was almost beyond comprehension. It’s been months since I’ve seen anyone in public not wearing a mask — until today. Tuesday, noon, and the line to buy ammo for the inevitable fall of the USA at the hands of Satan’s minion, Joe Biden, was to the back of the store. My grandad used to have a saying, “A fool and his money are soon parted.” I take comfort in that.

Proof consists of hearing other people say it.

Sad but true. Karl Rove introduce this idea to the US. I have never talked to a trump supporter who had any facts to back up their claims. When you point out the facts to them they get angry. I stopped talking to Trump four years ago. It is a waste of time and energy besides being maddening. Now I just shake my head with complete amazement how delusional some people are.

Are any of you aware of white supremacists using The Punisher skull logo as their symbol? I read this recently and wonder if it is true. And I'm worried about the fact that my brother has started wearing such a shirt recently.

This is true. In fact, Marvel is considering retiring the logo because it’s being used for this vigilantism.

This feels right... like these guys are pretty childish so thinking they are a comic book hero just feels right. I heard lefties have started dressing with the Captain Planet logo.

Good article from someone who knows about autocracy

I have thought about lack of fear a lot. When I still lived in Moscow, journalists who had access to the Kremlin often chided me for taking Putin and his goons too seriously. They didn’t exactly deny that he could have people killed and probably did, or that he was building a dictatorship. They just thought I was making too much of it. It took me a long time to understand that this wasn’t because these men knew more than I did, or even thought they knew more. It was precisely because they shared a world with Putin and his men and saw them as normal, as part of their community. We do not fear those whom we see as being like us; we fear the other.

Just as we get offended by lies, Trump’s followers get offended by truth.

It sucks when groups like them adopt a symbol that means something completely different and then everyone is forced not to wear that symbol or fear being labeled the new meaning only a few adopted e.g. the OK hand sign.

I haven't heard about the punisher thingy. Maybe ask your brother?

Well, now that you've stepped back from 'doing the same things the Capitol protesters did' to just 'bad actions', we might even agree.
Here's a simple explanation of what I think.

I'm only going to be speaking about the non-violent, destructive protesters.

The capital protesters were foolish, gullible sheepletons who were doing what they thought was right because somehow, in their alternate reality, they thought the election was stolen and Trump didn't lose. These people actually believed that insomuch they thought rioting was showing they were patriots. When you realize this was fueled by the president, the far right, conspiracy theories and white supremacy, it's scary af. There's a reason why these protesters were able to do what they did with little resistance.

The protesters over the summer of 2020 across the nation and areas like Portland, Seattle, SLC either truly believed that being destructive, looting and burning things down was a way for them to show how much racial inequality meant to them or were just ****** people looking for an excuse to do ****** things. These people were fueled by a political party and the media and liberal, woke influencers and yes, racial inequality (or what they thought.) The level of destruction and the lack of government response and action at times was either way too much or way too little.

Both of these protesters are completely different yet have a lot of similarities. For me, I don't have a problem feeling the "bad actions" of these groups was wrong - it just flat out was. Yes, one group had a way better reason to protest (a reason I stand by) but I'll be damned if I'd ever condone arson, looting, destruction and some of the **** show we saw. Some people have a hard time condemning it because they believe in the reason for the protest.

This message will probably upset someone on here or have someone tell me that I'm so dumb and blind or don't understand. I expect that. Our two party system is like a heated sports rivalry. The other team is a bunch of dip *****, suck ***, must be hated with ever fiber of your being and must be defeated.

Hooray for the USA. This **** is sad, 100%. It's almost more sad knowing that how bizarre things are we still live in a pretty damn country compared to a lot of places on earth.

I'm reluctant to ask him if he knows this hijacked meaning. I'm afraid of what his answer would be, and I would prefer to continue liking him.

I agree with much of what you wrote above, except that you were only talking about the peaceful protesters in the Capitol riot and the non-peaceful ones in the racial riots. Not exactly a fair comparison. Both groups had people who believed in their cause, and both groups had some who took advantage of the situation to destroy. But only one of those groups of non-violent protestors had truth on their side.

I'm 95% in agreement. The main difference being that part of the reason the summer protests escalated (the initial protests were completely peaceful) was a response to police escalation, while the Capital protest was violent without police escalation.
