He is not sitting at home because he needed back surgery.

And who wanted Palmer? Or should I say who, currently, was willing to trade even one first rounder for him let alone two? I don't believe for a second that the Dolphins, Colts, or any other organization would have traded one first rounder this year (especially considering Luck's out there) or next for him.

The big difference is that those team are going to have a shot at somewhere between the best prospect in 30 years, or three other good prospects. The Raiders are playing THIS year and don't have a franchise QB, while the guy that was not very good but holding down the fort got injured. They had to do something.

I don't know anything about Gerrard's health condition, but assuming he is healthy, you're right. They could've at least seen what Gerrard had before taking on Palmer. It's insane Gerrard has just been sitting so far this season.

If you think Palmer is the whole reason that the Bungles have sucked for decades then you really need to take a step back as a fan or even someone that watches football. They have possibly the worst owner in professional sports and some of the worst management to ride along.

Surprised they didn't go after Orton. They just saw the Broncos trade a pro bowl receiver for a 6th rounder. They could have gotten Orton for a 5th rounder. Palmer does have a higher risk/reward though.

Yeah, the news on Garrard's back surgery came out after I heard they were looking at him. I hadn't yet heard that til you told me.

As far as the Bengals go, they've made it to the playoffs twice in the last six or seven years, both with Palmer there, the first time because of him, the second time in spite of him. I don't think Palmer's the sole reason the Bengals have sucked. I never said that. Mike Brown should be forced to sell the team by Goodell. And yes, I'm serious. But they've had a solid defense for a few years now and Palmer has pretty much blown games all by himself for them, thus not helping them out any. Throw in a guy (and a rookie mind you) this year who's played some heady ball and you see what happens. If you think Carson Palmer is light years ahead of Jason Campbell, you're gravely mistaken.

And the points remain. Why are so people high on him? What has he done in the last four or five years to warrant this fawning? Secondly, how can you rationalize giving up two first rounders to get him? I can say with confidence that no one out there was currently offering even remotely close to that because there was no reason to. Not for a guy who will be 32 in December and hasn't shown **** in years.

I realize the difference. So your point is what? The Raiders outbid themselves? ****ing brilliant. Good job overbidding for a soon to be 32 year old who hasn't taken a snap in nearly a year and who hasn't played like the "franchise QB" you call him in about five years.

I think it's a win/win for both teams. Raiders did give up quite a bit for Palmer, but honestly they are young and loaded at all the skilled positions, so while losing potentially 2 first rounders looks bad, it really isn't that bad for Oakland. They get a proven veteran QB that can manage the game, and that can throw the deep ball. The Bengals hit a massive home run here. At worst they get another 1st in 2012 and a 2nd in 2013 for a player they don't need. They can basically stock pile more skilled players around Dalton over the next two seasons. Their defense is already a playoff caliber defense.

Loaded at all the skill positions? Do you watch football? Their receivers are mediocre at best. Speed does not equate into awesomeness. And who in the hell are their tight ends?

I do think he is an upgrade to Campbell personally but we will see. Oakland is a grave for QB's since Gannon but without Davis there Palmer will have an opportunity to lead the team. Remember what Gannon did? That is why you can gamble with a trade like this. If Palmer is resortly close to what Gannon was and with what they have in place they could possibly be an AFC contender immediately. Campbell to me was not a good QB in anyway...

Gannon did that with Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Jerry Porter, Charlie Garner and some strong offensive minds as coaches. Big difference. And yes, those offers were before the season, not now, which again baffles me as to why the Raiders gave up so much. But whatever. We'll see. I really want to see them and the Bengals in the playoffs along with the Niners and Lions. Some new blood is always fun.
