A little Boler appreciation

Boler declared a Lu Dort 14 footer a three tonight. It was basically below the free throw line. He later clarified that they called it a two because he felt it needed clarification... even though no one in the god damned world thought it was a three... not one person.
I like Boler, but that one was comically bad. It's like he's gotten worse somehow at this.

He has another in this game where the player was also completely inside the line, but not nearly as egregious as that one above.

Jebus I was wrong... it was a 12 footer. I mean is he watching the game on a cracked iphone? Are his eyes this bad? Is he watching something else on his second monitor and half watching the game?

Someone please explain how someone can see a three here if they are actually looking at the game.

I think he's getting older because his confuseability is getting worse. I yell at the tv at least 3-4 times a game when he can't understand some basic **** that is being called.

My wife has instituted the equivalent of a swear jar. When I crack off some of the same ol complaining about Boler (again and again), then I toss a quarter into the jar. He ain’t changing, so I need to.

We gonna need a bigger jar.

I chuckled hard at it and also at his comment when he finally realised it: "oh, they gave him a two.. " Like it took him a while to realise because refs needed to check it lol

The need to inform everyone watching that it was only a two was what made it so much better. I imagine Matt just kinda looks past Boler's mistakes now and kinda rolls his eyes. He doesn't ever try to help him get **** straightened out.

So here's my take on Bolerjack... or Locke, or anyone, really. It's like on High Fidelity when Jack Black turns on Walking on Sunshine and is dancing but John Cusack is mad because he just wants something he can put on and ignore. That's kind of how I am. I left on my mission and Hot Rod was doing the simulcast. When I returned, Bolerjack was now doing TV, but we still had Booner. There were things that definitely annoyed me about Bolerjack, and I think that was magnified because, until that point, all I had ever known was Hot Rod. Hot Rod was the nostalgia and the way I expected to feel when watching a game. But eventually got used to it. What I care most about is getting specific Jazz replays. If there's a questionable call, I want to see the replay, things that the opposing team or national broadcasts aren't going to give. I don't want to listen to nonsense from another point of view. I want to be able to tune out what our guys say, but I also don't want to hear the other side's take... at least not when I'm watching the game. I want to be able to ignore it and get replays that confirm my bias.

And getting the occasional "what's a skillet?" comments is a great garnish in my Jazzfandom memory logs.

I'm fine with some pronunciation issues... its hard... but when it sounds like the first time he's ever seen or attempted the name it bugs me. You also would think they'd have one person there assigned to go over names of guys with the broadcast team so they don't sound like casuals. I mean its literally their job to talk about basketball. When I have business meetings with tough names to pronounce I always look it up or figure it out first thing on the call so I don't offend or sound like a goober.
But see you care about your business. Boler doesn't care about basketball. And it shows.

Damn near every ****ing time. My favorite one was Mitchell did a nifty spin move at the top of the key, then a quick crossover into a nice 18 ft shot. Boler could not follow the action at all, so all he said was something like Donovan with the ball at the top of the key for three! Nailed it! Then like 2 plays later said, oh it looks like they gave Donovan 2 on that shot and thurl somehow unironically said, yeah it looked like he was over the line on that one. I laughed so hard. Classic.

This happens a lot. At least 2-3 times per game in some respect. Along with calling fouls on regular out-of-bounds plays or getting the direction of possession wrong, often while the ref is actively pointing in the direction intended. That last one was funny one game when he got it wrong ("jazz ball" ref pointing dramatically the other way) and when he noticed it they had stopped play, absolutely NOT to check on possession, and he says "looks like they are checking on possession on that last play" while the refs just stand there during the time out.

But again all this just shows he doesn't care enough about the game to learn about it or watch enough basketball to understand the plays. He doesn't care about improving his craft. He has a good voice and can maintain the patter and that is good enough for the jazz I guess.

Oh I know it happens a few times a game... but normally the person is like within a few feet of the line... this one was particularly egregious... the free throw line is right there for an easy reference. Was just confusing because either his eyes are so bad they should like pull his drivers license and ****... or he's not paying attention at all.
