Zubac isn’t a lob threat, but he can punish you on the offensive glass very much like Ayton did.
Zubac is remotely as dangerous as Ayton. Additionally, if the Clippers go small, we can punish them a LOT harder than Dallas could on the offensive end.

I certainly wouldn’t rule that out. But I don’t think it’s likely to be a good option for more than a few possessions. It might be a good wrinkle, though.
Definitely. I'd be rolling that out as a counter to shift them back into more traditional schemes. So if they're going to run out a lineup that could kill us, we just need to flex that enough to have them stop running 5-out.

He can. I'm curious to see how much he plays and if we end up playing him off the floor in the pick and roll. But I do think there's a big enough difference in efficiency of a lob from Paul rather than a put-back from Zubac, even if we suck at defensive glass in that situation.

Every minute Zubac is on the floor should be a win for the Jazz.

If we can win this game without Mike, this gives us more psychological edge both in our confidence and in the Clippers’ lack of confidence.

My feelings on this are complicated and not entirely settled. It's been a tough ride. After our two finals appearances, I had assumed we'd get back to things like the WCF and that never happened again (with that team) and then we ended that era getting bounced in the first round 3 years in a row. We had our nice WCF run in '07 and there's a depressing component of knowing that, had we been able to win 3 more games, we would have won it all that year. We then haven't been able to advance out of the second round. We got bumped by the Lakers initially, then I think we met them in the first round after that point. We're going to ignore our first round sweep at the hands of the Spurs. When we played the Clippers in 2017, I was nervous. Definitely thought we could win, but got really nervous before game 1 and when Gobert went down like 15 seconds into the game, I thought 'well, next year, I guess.' Pulling that out was great, but then swept by Golden State. I was more hopeful we could compete more because we were able to play and matchup better against them in the regular season. The next year I was hopeful we could beat OKC, but after the first game that we lost I felt we were too outmatched by star power. We met Houston in the second round and I had wanted to face them in a 1/8 matchup the whole season before we went on our tear. I thought psychologically they were fragile and thought we'd have a good chance at an upset. I think we won game 2 and that seemed to switch the momentum, then we got wiped out in game 3. The next year wasn't great. Denver series was disappointing.

But now? I kinda feel the same way about this series as I did against LA in 2017 and against OKC in 2018. Maybe I worry about star power kicking into gear and us folding mentally. That's my biggest fear. With the Grizzlies it was about staying engaged, with the Clippers it will be about staying confident. If we can come out and punch them hard in the first game, then I think that will calm any nerves we have and carry us through the rest of the series. My biggest fear is putting ourselves in a position where we doubt ourselves and then start playing timid and stupid. I think we would have beat LAC last year. They're not tough mentally at all, but they're not consistently weak. They can certainly peak on that end in this series before falling flat in the future. They can't be consistently tough. If we put them on their heels from the get go, we'll get the major psychological advantage, and it will cut both ways. But if we don't come out hard and hold the first two games, that momentum can swing and they can get confident while we go into a shell. I don't know what to predict. We can definitely win this, and we can win it easy. If things align right, we could go 4-1. But we could also botch this. In any case, we should be going farther than we have previously, and I have a hard time thinking, if we lost, that we only win 2 games.

I don't like game that I'm nervous about. The idea of facing Dallas would be like me watching Memphis. When we lost game 1, I still thought we'd win, and it sucked, but I could just lay back (sort of, maybe I'm saying that in hindsight). I'd like us to be up 2-0 by Thursday.
A lot of this. Just like Denver last year... this is a series I think we can win but a loss really hurts. Not a great start with Conley out but I was expecting that.

Jazz can win without Conley, but 2 of Bogey/Clarkson/Ingles have to have great games (assuming Rudy/Mitchell keep their end).

Winning the game tonight is so crucial. It should basically be a schedule loss for the Clips... if they pull this one out then we likely have to panic and play Conley whether or not he is ready for game 2.

The hydra must be in full effect.

Regarding the starpower edge that the clippers supposedly have:

Donovan Mitchell last year in the playoffs averaged 36.3 PPG in 37 minutes.

Kahwi averaged 24.3 PPG in 39.5 minutes.

This season Donovan is averaging 28.5 PPG in 29.9 minutes.

Kawhi is averaging 32.1 PPG in 40.7 minutes.

We have some major alphas and tough battle ready players on this roster. Bogey is fearless and tough as nails. Donovan and gobert are primed and ready to go and chomping the bit.
Royce isn't afraid of any matchup and is going to be all up in kahwi all series.
Joe ain't scared of anyone and will probably make pg13 cry at some point.
We have seen playoff favors before and know what he can do..... Especially against the clippers.
Niang and Clarkson gonna eat.

Conley gonna be fresh and rested when he comes back and the clippers will have to adjust for another head of the hydra after being flummoxed by the 8 heads they will have already had to face

I feel bad for the clippers.

A random Favs is dominating inside game or a Niang can't miss game would also be great.
This. We need Favors to give us his best Favors impression... if that makes sense.

A Niangphoon will probably be necessary.

This puts us deep into the x-factor discussion.

Yeah, a loss tonight would be particularly bad for the Jazz considering LA is coming off an exhausting series. If the Jazz can't get this one, and Conley is out multiple games, maybe even the entire series, I could see things going south just like every other semifinals we've seen under Quin. Hopefully that isn't the case but I think tonight is series-defining because 0-1 certainly feels like a more likely chance of turning into 0-2 than last series.

I think the jazz are better than the Mavs.

It took the clippers 7 games to beat the Mavs.

Kahwi Leonard shot 43% on long twos in the regular season. He shot 70% on long twos in round 1 vs dallas and they still almost lost to the Mavs

I got a 2 week free trial of YouTube tv today. So it will be nice to have DVR action for this round of playoffs and reliable streaming instead of the nba bites crackstreams crap I had been using.

Also, I missed quite a few chunks of games on round 1 due to games taking place while I was on an airplane and then not being able to find the nbatv game until the 1st quarter was over. Will be nice to see every second of this series.

My offer still stands to anyone who wants to FaceTime me and I can hold the camera up to one of my kids’ phones.

I want whatever @fishonjazz and @White Chocolate are drinking... I mean that in a non-sarcastic and truly genuine way.

I've almost convinced myself that if the Clips had issues with Luka then way until they see his dad... Sir Joseph Horwath English III. I expect us to pull this one out... if our coach is as good as we think he is then he should be able to help us throw the first punch here.
