Well, if Sloan were still coach, you know Burks would be parked on the bench behind Bell and Chucker. With Corbin, perhaps there's a chance for Alec to get 15 mins/per. Still, with Millsap likely getting a bunch of minutes at SF, especially if Memo is healthy, there aren't a lot of minutes available for Burks. You have to think CJ and Hayward, with a sprinkling of Raja, will eat up most of the remaining minutes at wing. Alec won't get enough time to put up ROY numbers. Only hope I have is that CJ and Raja get dealt at the trade deadline. Perhaps the rotation is then Millsap 30 mins at SF, Hayward 18 mins at SF and 18 at SG and Burks 30 mins at SG.He won't get enough playing time.

Millsap is not going to get a bunch of minutes at SF. It will happen, but it will be rare. If it does happen, it will be a huge mistake/disaster.
If Burks can just hit mid range jumpers off a curl/screen, convert 3 point plays at the rim, and play adequate defense I'll be thrilled. If he has a 3 point shot I'll be ridiculously thrilled.
Still a lot of if's, but well said and I agree ..

Good thought! Our depth could prove to be an advantage for us in a condensed season.I am hoping that the season is condensed and they try and squeeze as many games in as possible. That really will allow for our young and hopefully energetic players to get more time.
Hey, do you have a link for a free stream of UK's game tomorrow?

I'm thinkin' of tryin' Captain and Dew. Anyone ever try this? Captain Morgan and Mountain Dew?
So, please help me understand. You are calling for the trading of Jefferson because you feel like Kanter will be better than him very soon. As soon as someone starts a thread about Burks being able to win the ROY award, you use the argument that everyone has been using with you in regards to Kanter. I am so confused.
Let me clarify my stance. I want the young guys to play a lot of minutes for the next two or three years. Let them play through their mistakes and give them a chance to learn and grow. I want to see Jefferson either traded or his minutes significantly limited. I fee the same way for Burks as well. Bell and Miles should have very limited minutes and should possibly be traded if the opportunity arises. I am ok with a few losing seasons as long as the young guys are getting better.
Great post. Burks is probably MORE NBA-ready than Kanter right now. Just look at the #3 pick in last year's draft: Favors was considered the best big-man in the draft with huge upside. He promptly went to the bench behind Kris Freakin' Humphries on one of the worst teams in the league. It took Favors almost an entire season before he started to show flashes of what he could do - and that was after a pretty good year of college ball. Kanter doesn't have nearly the same amount of experience and Jefferson is no Humphries.
I don't think the Jazz need to necessarily sacrifice wins to develop their young talent. Favors and Hayward have already shown they can be starters, so playing each 30 mins/per is not detrimental to the team. So we're really talking about the development of Burks and Kanter. If I were Corbin, I'd limit Memo to 15-20 mins and not play him on the 2nd night of back-to-back games. That frees up more time for Kanter and/or Burks (if Millsap plays more PF when Memo is out). And mins for the other vets can be cut back a bit due to the condensed schedule. Look at a stretch of 4 games in 5 nights and tell Jefferson, Favors, Millsap, etc. that the idea will be to play them no more than 30 mins - and less if possible - to keep them fresh. I think Kanter and Burks will both have a few DNP's and average around 15 mins across the games they do play. And that will be perfect for the 1st half of the season. If either proves to be a whole lot better and is ready for significantly more minutes, then the Jazz can look at trades at the deadline.
