Jazz Offseason Plan

I think sometimes we dismiss guys cuz "they washed" or "they are losers"... we just lost a series where Batum, Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris were all key to beating us... just something to consider.

Lol don’t even get me started on this.

Griffin and Tucker are washed too don’t forget that.

If there was a 25-26 year old that was built like Rudy Gay and putting up those per 36 numbers we'd be asking if we could trade 1sts to bring him in.

Its just weird... like we get bonus points for the production coming from a younger guy or something. Our cupboards are bare... it would be quite helpful to get Rudy Gay to help us retool the roster.

I appreciate the effort, but couple things I see:

- I'm with Cy - I'm not a big fan of Rudy at that price tag for that length.

- I don't think we should be worried about saving money unless we are having to avoid the hard cap. So the Kleber deal is something I would avoid. He's a lateral move at best.

- I like the 3 team deal concept with Indiana and Charlotte, but I would be either targeting Rozier or dumping Favors in that deal. Charlotte would be clearing Hayward and getting Turner. I think they could afford to take on Favors too with all that cap space. So we trade Bojan and Favors, and get back Lamb, Bridges and scraps.

- If we can do all the above and keep Mike, then we do it.

- And we also sign somebody who can play small ball 5 - Theis, Olynyk, OPJ, Batum

Add Lamb, Bridges, small ball 5 guy
Keep Conley
Lose Bojan and Favors

I'm not blown away, but it could work to improve us.
The deal with Kleber is that we'd be getting Kleber and Gay for Bojan's price. We absolutely need to worry about the money if Conley is back because it is huge. Everyone assumes we can just write the check but the tax could get to like bonkers levels. We are talking like $60M in tax this year on top of $160M in salary. Please name me a small market team that did that big of a tax hit. Outside of the Brooklyn team I don't think there are any second round teams that have taken that type of hit. It is pretty naive to just say don't worry about saving money when that's the type of money we are talking about. That type of move saves $30M in tax and 7-8M in salary.

The idea with Kleber and Gay is that now you can play 5 out and have some rebounding and rim protection. It gives a different look than we've had. It isn't sexy at all I get that, but Maxi moves well for a big and can shoot it well enough... plus he can protect the rim in help situations.

If it was Batum and Kleber I'm cool with that too. OP jr. I'm not touching unless its a minimum deal... his body is broken. Theis I think does better than the mini-mle Olynyk is a guy I like and I think he could be in that range.

I don't think Charlotte eats Favors salary in that deal... I think Hayward plus Bridges or Washington for Turner and Bojan is a solid deal for them... you add Rozier and Favs salary and its quite uneven imo. I think Charlotte prefers Rozier to Devontae next to Lamelo... I mean if we can get it done then great... but I think its a tall ask.

Yeah. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
I watched him in Portland a little bit... it was really bad. I think we can bury this one but it may have just been a rough couple minutes I guess.

How was it compared to the LAC Niang minutes?
Don't ask me to compare diarrhea to watery stools okay? You have a point and look he might have played instead of Niang or Favs and given us something. I'd take him on the roster but he's not the go to guy to look at now that FA will open. Based on what was left he would have been a fine flyer to take.

Not advocating him, just saying he may be the most Booker-ish, even if he’s not all that Booker-ish.

No, that's exactly what I'm saying. I chose 2017 cuz that was the year of the Clippers 7-game series.

On the other hand, he wasn't that the next season.
Ahhh 2016-2017 Joe... gotcha.

What would it take to pry Siakam from the Raptors? He seems like the ideal fit. Raptors would probably also demand Spida.

I think Rudy has kept himself in amazing shape... he has also changed his shot profile to take more threes and hits a good portion of them. His per 36 numbers are 19/8/2.3... gets 1.2 stls, 1.1 blks per game. Shooting 38% from three on 7.4 attempts per. He's good in the mid range and has played in luxurious places such as Memphis, Sacramento and San Antonio. I don't think he minds a small market and would likely love an opportunity to start (assuming we move Bojan to help the budget) on a playoff contender. I think he gets more than $6M on a one year deal so 3/18 is fair even though he's old.

Our window is the next two years... he will contribute over that time period.

Yeah, I finally went and looked up those figures... pretty eye-popping.

The starting stuff would rely on some big changes, though. Still feel like the Jazz mostly aim to stand-pat, especially since Conley will make the choice for them as to who goes to make the money work. Though, I guess in that case there would be an opening in the starting lineup anyway.
