Boozer Agrees to Terms With Bulls (5 yrs/80 mil)

I couldn't disagree with this post more. I don't think Carlos was our 2nd best player. I don't think the Jazz should have signed Boozer to this contract even if they had 50M dollars to spend. This is going to be an AK'esc albatross of a contract from day 1. He is not going to put up 20/10 in a different system than this one and he is not worth this contract now or ever.

The one thing I'll give you is they should not have extended Memo. Besides that your pretty much wrong IMO.

True dat... true dat.

Jazz need 2 more stars, other than Deron. Deron is not Kobe. He needs as much help, if not even more, than Kobe does. So just Booz or Bosh alone wont help. Jazz need 3 stars and 4-5 solid role players.

Thats because the Jazz aren't the Lakers. but thats another discussion..

And you can win with 2 Superstars. See: LA. They have 4-5 really good role players and 2 superstars.

Nah, you're overthinking it. To be a true contender you need a playmaker, shooters to stretch the floor, and post defense/rebounding. Unfortunately, Utah now has only one of those three ingredients.

There was no other way...
With AK on Jazz roster, there was no money to pay Boozer. And, as everybody saw it in last few seasons Boozer/Okur combination will not lead Jazz over Lakers.Jazz will probably regress, but team needs to try with new faces....

Finally, the only thing standing between the Jazz and championship glory is gone! A string of Jazz NBA championships is sure to follow.

We've now got a great cap situation at least, but if he walks for nothing then we're retarded.

We were retarded when we gave AK that big deal. If we didn't have AK in the books then he would have been signed. The FO should have seen this coming. Also if we signed Boozer, we probably would not have much left to give Dwill that huge extension.

MAITLAND, Fla. — The Jazz have reached a sign-and-trade agreement with the Chicago Bulls that will net Utah a valuable traded player exception.

The Jazz will send a protected future second-round draft choice to Chicago, which on Wednesday agreed to terms on a five-year contract with unrestricted free agent Carlos Boozer believed to be valued in the $75-to-80 million. In return, Utah gets the traded player exception, or TPE.

The TPE allows the Jazz to acquire one or more players via trade with any other team any time over the next year even if their acquisition leaves Utah over the NBA's team payroll salary cap of $58.044 million, as long as their salary or combined salaries do not exceed the total of the amount of money Boozer will make in his first year with the Bulls plus $100,000.

That first-salary figure for Boozer is expected to be in the $13 million range.

The Jazz will technically sign Boozer to his contract, then trade him and the pick to the Bulls for the exception — essentially a paperwork transaction.

It was not immediately known what the protection is on the second-round draft choice.

Wicked trade for the Jazz. With the 2 trade exceptions + AK's expiring, the Jazz have loads of flexibility to completely overhaul their roster.

$13mil TE > Boozer at $80mil over 5 seasons

That's what I'm thinking. No guarantee the Jazz can or will use all these assets. The Harpring TPE expires before the deadline so we'd need to find a partner early. Now, with AKs expiring and the Boozer's TPE available, we have some decent assets to work with if non-contenders decide to dump good vets.

KOC did the best he could. And this was probably the plan all along after Carlos opted in last season. There were no decent trade options for Carlos last year, so they let Boozer choose a new team this summer and then KOC negotiated a TPE.
