Trade deadline discussion

Just going to reemphasize I think trading Bojan for Smart is a bad idea. I think he's as important if not more to the offense than Conley, I might be alone in that.
You'd also need to get a rotation level or starter forward out of Clarkson to replace Bogie to make it work, and I think Clarkson probably has negative value around the league.
Maybe this is a hot take, but Conley for Smart shouldn't be off the table. It really doesn't make sense to bring Smart off the bench, especially if Clarkson is still here.
I agree 100%. Bojan is more important than Conley especially come playoff time.

Having Conley and Clarkson is just redundant. Been saying that for years now. Clarkson is unique because he does have games where he makes a huge positive difference, but he's perfectly happy coming off the bench. And his value is probably lower and I don't like selling low.

David Locke just dedicated an entire segment of his morning podcast today to talk about Marcus Smart and acknowledged the trade rumor.
Just caught it. He mentioned that while he's not a deadly shooter, but he hits shots in the clutch. That is severely lacking on the team.

I also double checked, his salary is a concern but it might be overblown - it goes for the next 4 years but every year except the last is less than what Bogey makes.

I think Locke's concern about Smart's presence ruining Gobert in the pick and roll is overblown, he's actually pretty good in the PnR.

Bingo. As I think about it, a DM/Smart/Clarkson guard rotation sounds pretty doable to me.

The Bojan/Smart/Schroeder trade in isolation makes zero sense. We are adding two more guards and creating a giant hole on the wing.

We would have to be packaging Clarkson/Schroeder and the picks we get for a wing. What starter level wing is available for a package like that?

I would only do the Bojan trade if we get a protected 1st from Boston. It could be completely lottery protected but I think it needs to be a first if they want Bojan that badly. I would send them a 2nd if need be.

I would then send Schroder to some place like Dallas that is desperate to use their exception on a playmaker. Once again, try to give 2nds with a player and get back a lottery protected 1st.

If we had two lottery protected 1sts and either Clarkson and/or Conley to target John Collins, Harrison Barnes, or Jerami Grant, maybe we have a shot.

I'm a no on the smart trade if it's for Bojan. We're too damn small as is. When the starting lineup grinds to a halt at least Bojan can back a guy down in the post on occasion. I don't see Smart or Schroeder doing that. Bogey doesn't have a ton of athleticism but he plays hard and is tough as nails.

IND could be a JC destination as well. They're in a weird spot, but it's kind of their MO to hover around mediocre and stay somewhat relevant that way. Lamb and Warren are expiring this summer, but they're also not going to be a big cap space team if they let them walk. They're in that weird range where it's probably better to operate as an over the cap team. They also have guys like Justin Holiday and Torrey Craig that could be useful for us as Royce alternatives.

I've been a staunch Royce defender, and still am to some degree, but I think it's fair to question if Royce is actually good or just mediocre at the things we desperately need.

I don't believe any rumor that involves Bogey. No way the Jazz are trading him with the way he's playing.
