Atlanta Rudy Trade

Having a big, athletic wing who can drive the ball down the lane and either finish or kick out to shooters is incredibly valuable. I'm optimistic about Jalen Johnson being able to play that role. He's like a middle-class version of Ben Simmons, or a faster, more athletic version of Kyle Anderson, imo. He came into the league as a raw 19 year-old after a messed up covid season at Duke.

Capela is a logical addition to the trade because ATL would have no use for him after getting Rudy. I understand your opinion though, Capela looked toast this year. He is not the same player that switched out onto Mitchell and clamped him in the playoffs several years ago. Physically, he looked Favors-esque all year. If Capela is included, I think the Jazz hold firm that he is a negative contract and ask more more in the ways of future compensation. Okongwu really showed some flashes though and I wouldn't mind us taking him in lieu of another FRP pick or something along those lines.

I've circled ATL as a trade candidate just because of their variety of assets and different ways to get a deal done. They have all their picks, additional picks, young players at different stages of their careers, and also vets. Whatever the Jazz desire, they're likely to find it on ATL's roster and ATL could not get a player for their roster than Rudy Gobert. This is the type of the move that elevates them to a contender.
I think we should let Atlanta worry about what to do with Capella. If they desperately have to include him in the Rudy deal, I would insist they flip him to Charlotte and we get back Washington and Plumlee.

But yes, Atlanta is a perfect fit for a Rudy deal. They have the need and the assets to get the job done.

And they would insist you go fly a kite.

I would be surprised if Atlanta thinks a Rudy deal is what gets them over the hump when he hasn’t been able to clear that hump with us. They might be willing to give it a shot if the cost is Capela/Collins (who was on the block previously) I really don’t think they go much beyond that…

I think the teams that haven’t gotten into the real playoff are the best bet to overpay… or give fair value. Memphis, Dallas, and GS might do something because their center situations aren’t great… although Dallas just smoked us so they may not be as interested and have intimate knowledge now of how he can be planned around. They might do it because they have a little urgency to get a second star around Luka.

I think ATL checks a lot of those boxes to some extent. They were a play in team this year. Their C position is not great. They need a second star to pair with Trae Young. They did reach the conference finals two years ago, but I don't think they're sitting around thinking that's a given and that they don't need Rudy to get there. Even if they do believe they are that same caliber of team, Rudy would greatly improve the defensive side of the ball which was their biggest weakness.

It was said that Capela and Young were the only untouchables on the ATL roster at deadline. Of course, you could take that both ways. Maybe that means the Hawks really like Capela and think he's close to Gobert. Or you could say that means they would really love Gobert who is better than Capela at everything. From the outside, I can't think of a team who should have more motivation than ATL to Gobert. It does not mean Schlenk thinks the same way though.

Atlanta fan here. Not interested. Remove Okongwu and we have a deal. Otherwise, that's an awful deal for us and far too rich for Utah

I can see the value of JC, two 1sts, and while I don't believe JJ has much value. Money wise, this doesn't work. I would gladly do a Kevin and JC deal without any picks.

Okongwu is a non starter for us. Any deal with him is an instant no unless we are trading for a legit gamechanger superstar with a reasonable contract. Neither of which is Rudy. Okongwu, Hunter, and Trae are simply off the table. We need them too much for the rest of the east. Otherwise, we can't do a deal.

Maybe another team can give you a better offer. Try Charlotte. They have two 1sts.

I’ll admit that I’m intrigued to see Rudy on Atlanta. Rudy’s offensive game is one dimensional, but he excels in that dimension. Running with a partner that excels in passing a lob could easily elevate his game to be 20+ ppg player while maintaining his ridiculous efficiency. Don is an average facilitator (being nice here), but lob passes seem to be where he struggles the most.

If we trade Gobert it better be followed by a trade of Mitchell, all I’m going to say.
Me personally, I'll keep Mitchell. Too hard to find #1 options even in today's NBA. I'll just create a five out 5 that can switch everything. I would be trying to get JC and Myles Turner. That's a perfect pairing for JC. Issue is, Turner doesn't fit Trae.

The biggest issue I have with Utah is the Conley. If he plays like he did last year, you got a stud but if he plays like he did this year, you have a dud. Conley is the engine.
