Also another interesting thing I got from the Locke podcast on this: It seems like Quin is potentially tired of the criticism/blame he got this year. I think Quin really defended his players, but the reality is he might be tired of dealing with the Rudy/Mitchell thing.

My overall takeaway from Locke (and admittedly this might be me putting my personal opinion into this): Quin hated the way the Jazz played this year (this was explicit). He's tired of it, but since Mitchell has so much power he cant really do much with how many people are in Don's ear. The new FO/Ownership is all about keeping Donovan happy, so it's furthering the stress on Quin. Add to that the fans are turning on Quin and blaming him for this type of style that has led to the losses, furthering his frustrations.

Having expectations is difficult. You actually have to perform. When you're a tanking or up and coming team, there's no pressure to win and it's easy on everyone. Everyone is happier on a no expectations team, and I think SAS would be a good destination for him. He would definitely help them.

Nothing new here, I think this has all been reported before. Quin has one year left and he's turned down the extension. I don't think it's necessarily a money thing on either end, Quin probably just wants to leave. New ownership often means a new coach, the FO cleansing has already happened. Quin butted heads with the current and former front offices. I think the Jazz want him back because Don loves him, but the feeling is not mutual. Quin looked checked out as did the rest of the team.

Don't think Don will demand Quin gone, so Quin's future will depend on whether or not a good enough job opens for him. Quin holds every card in this situation, which is funny because he was a massive problem for this franchise.

I think he wants to leave... but he wants his money too. I think Jazz know he has checked out, but want to make him quit so Ryan saves his money. If he wanted to leave and take a gap year, which has been reported, he could just leave and he loses his money. If the extension was a big enough number he'd sign it... Jazz likely offering a similar number to what he's getting which is generally not how these things work. I think its a starring contest.

If Quin waits long enough he could end up tanking the offseason and next year... or at some point the franchise gives him an ultimatum... then he gets fired... and gets his money. What a **** show.

I'd bet large sums of money he is in San Antonio once Pop retires, which is likely next year. He'd prefer a year off (paid) to recharge... will kinda keep kicking the can down the road and leaking stuff until we fire him... or come back in and half *** one more year.

A sloppy transition to a new coach is another reason you just rebuild now instead of waiting 12 months.

He's a softy who aided said player in his takeover. He's shielded him from criticism every chance he's had. Contrast it with Ime Udoka who hears a guy call his player out and is like "yeah he's right". Then he goes and tells the players to get on the same page and fix it.

Quin is a lawyer and a scholar. We need someone with some grit. This team has taken on Quin's personality.

I do however see some validity to Quin seeing the writing on the wall and saying "maybe I can get my money... walk away for a year then get the job I'm already eyeing."

I think everyone sees it except Ryan at this point.

I disagree... kind of. Boston isn't gritty AF because their owners are hedge fund bros. Suns aren't what they are because they are led by a racist... owners can aid culture but the coach has a lot to do with it. Ryan is definitely part of the problem.

Their hedgefund bros keep their noses out the team tho. They are just owners. They arent owners in the way Ryan Smith is trying to be an owner.

And the Suns were most definitely hurt by their owner for years and may have a sharp decline because of him.

Both teams had coaches come in and change the culture. Ryan has aided in our cultural decline... Quin hasn't helped. Its a blame pie... and Quin gets his fair share.
