They don't play for each other though.... I think it absolutely bleeds over. It can be counterproductive to be too close... but I just feel its an environment of too much selfishness and it starts with those two. I know they eat together sometimes but I just think its different than a traditional work environment. If you don't get along I think it does matter.
I think the root of their frustration starts with the inability to win. They couldn't win with the coaching/roster around them, they could have absolutely won more even if they hated each other if the coaching/roster was better. I think years of losing with the same teammates, not just each other, will grind on everyone. Especially when the some of the rare players that were moved were the A+ locker room guys. There are a lot of things that factor into a working relationship. You may not like someone on your team in the office, but if you like the other people around you or the team is really good at accomplishing things it doesn't matter. Have the same team where nothing changes, you're not in a position to succeed, and the people everyone likes are gone and that is sure to piss anyone off. Simply having a stronger willed coach can make a huge difference, as evident by Boston's turnaround this season. But at the same time, there would be no turnaround to be had for Boston if their roster was set up to fail or Ime was a bad basketball coach.
I don't think they like each other as people, but it is somewhat of a chicken or the egg problem. IMO, the lack of success is creating major personal issues and it's not the personal issues creating the lack of success. If Quin had a pulse in the LAC series or the FO had better solutions to perimeter defense than Miye Oni I think this team would have made a finals appearance. There were times where this team were all best friends and they still got clapped in the playoffs. Don and Rudy are not perfect on or off the court, but the failures of this franchise are really not the problem in my eyes. How friendly Don-Rudy matters somewhat, but nowhere near the impact that having an inept coach has. I'd like to have them on better terms but I'd also really like to have a better coach and more balanced roster around them.
