Predict the Rudy Gobert trade

I’m fairly certain Rudy is getting moved before the draft. I wonder if someone comes out of the woodwork with a better offer than the current ones on the table and shock everyone. Doubtful but you never know. There are some teams that should absolutely be at least inquiring about Rudy that aren’t or at least we haven’t heard about yet.

Feels like he gets moved to Chicago but maybe Atlanta includes Hunter at the final hour to put their offer over the top.

What I’m not understanding is why a team like the Kings that is desperate to make the Playoffs isn’t falling over themselves to throw everything they have to get Rudy. Rudy is a guy that will alone elevate even Sac to playoff contention.

They very stupidly mortgaged their future for Sabonis.

I don't trust the talking heads. Just because reports say we are building around Don, we haven't seen anything that's tangible to prove that yet. There are rumors out there even including Don being traded or wanting out or we are moving on.

The only player we have shown any loyalty to this summer is Jordan Clarkson with the whole jersey debacle.

Rudy shouldn't be upset until we actually do something or trade him.

Quite the contrary. Rudy is getting moved.

It’s just a hunch. The Jazz are leakiest of leaky franchises these days. The big reporters are mostly saying one team is more likely than the other, but no one really saying a trade is likely except for the obviously unreliable sources. Nothing tangible from the local media either. Draft is in two days, feels like there’s not enough buzz going around.

There’s also the thought of….this trade was kinda stupid in the first place. If the Jazz intend to try to win as much as possible, there’s really no reason to trade Rudy unless they are caving into some kind of mandate from Don. Haven’t heard anything along those lines for awhile.

To me the rumor about the Bulls looking for ways to get more picks in order to include in Gobert trade is weird. Are we looking for picks or win-now pieces?

1st round picks are the most liquid assets you can get; they can re-route those for players pretty easily in the event they might prefer some other win now pieces.

So there’s that angle. The other angle is the Jazz could position themselves to pivot to a rebuild and/or stealth tank. I think it’s a fairly safe assumption that Ryan’s current priorities as an owner is at odds with what Ainge would do if he had free reign since this team is basically the opposite of how he’s built other, more successful teams.

I can see a scenario where Ryan drags us through his chief goal of blah blah All Star Game then the rebuild happens afterwards.

I want to thread this with what happened with Christian Wood. Unfortunately, I don’t think a heist like the Wood trade happens again this off-season. Wood would’ve been a perfect center to use as a pivot point between win-now and the inevitable rebuild but that ship has obviously sailed.

Back to the point I’m trying to make: having 1sts - especially superfluous ones - is the grease that turns gears on the market.

I always want picks. And the cool thing about picks as that they can turn into win now pieces! Sometimes young players contribute to winning immediately. And sometimes picks are traded for veteran win now players.
