Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

What of value did we actually give up for Conley? We basically gave them spare parts, a decent role player in Jae Crowder, and two FRPs, one of which became a nobody and one of which we got back in the Rudy trade (Walker Kessler).

A good argument is that we should have used those same assets to go after someone bigger and younger (Brogdon), but I am skeptical even that would have moved the needle much.

But we got the only All-Star season of Conley’s career and a really damn good regular season last year for what was basically a bunch of spare parts. We won the Conley trade even though we didn’t reach the hoped-for heights.

The big failure that doomed this build in was not the Conley trade. It was constantly ****ing up at the margins with bad free agent signings, bad drafting, and then attaching picks to fix those mistakes. We could have created a much better supporting cast just by drafting better and signing better FAs.

Not sure I buy the Sexton rumors. We have way too many guards as is, and even if we end up shipping some of them out, I just don't see Ainge targeting a 6'1 guy. I think the front office is determined to get bigger.

I am sure some trades will come down that makes me look stupid, but right now aren’t the tea leaves pointing strongly towards a rebuild rather than a retool? Unless we are planning on picking up some killer “win now” pieces by trade (there’s really not much precedent in teams swapping “like for like,” and guys like Bogey and Conley usually go to contenders in exchange for meh-to-bad salary and picks), the fact that we’ve signed ZERO veteran free agents at this stage when everyone of note is signed somewhere seems to be a strong “tell” we aren’t REALLY planning on retooling and competing next year, no?

Yes...every single move they've made so far this offseason points to a re-build, not a re-tool. The front office can say whatever they want but actions speak louder than words.

We might get players back if some of the vets are traded.

Conley was an overpay mistake vs. Conley was the starting PG for one of the most fun regular seasons in Jazz history (#1 regular season). It was fun, now it’s over. Ok. Whatevs.
Last year was the most painful season I can remember. Glad that’s over. Whatevs.
And outside of Mitchell and Gobert the Jazz drafts have been pretty underwhelming. Alright, well, now what?

Fans need to vent and we’ve vented. Mistakes of the past are in the rear view mirror, so let’s look forward and sing hallelujah the Jazz have a new man behind the wheel in Danny Ainge. I hope he’s a good driver. I’m optimistic.

I love that the FO is posturing they want to build around DM, while at the same time saying they’re open to godfather offers. That indicates they’re maintaining a strong negotiating stance, rather than fire sale desperation. This bolsters my optimism.

And I’m no positive Peter when it comes to the Jazz. I’ve experienced plenty of times where the moves of the FO made me feel like someone took a dump in my stomach. But again, with the FO’s moves this off-season, there’s reason for optimism.

I love Gobert but I love the Gobert trade. Gobert is 30. Exchanging him for younger models/picks is the right move. No sentimentality in this new FO and I approve of that. I love Bogey too but he’s over 30 and he’s got value. So yeah, you gotta trade him (for value, of course).

Gobert’s contract is insane. I’m thrilled the Jazz got such an amazing haul for him, while at the same time not having to continue to pay his exorbitant $$$.

Personally, I’m against trading NAW or Doke because you’d be selling low and they’ve barely seen playing time. Hopefully, Dok’s injury woes fade away like Embiid’s faded. Obviously Dok won’t reach Embiid’s MVP heights but maybe he can be as healthy, or hopefully healthier, and still be plenty serviceable. Sad the Jazz didn’t draft Bane but it is what it is. Dok is our guy now and I’m hopeful he plays well enough to see time.

Again, I’m glad Ainge is driving the bus now and so far things are looking rosy.

Sooner rather than later, the other shoe has to drop, doesn’t it?

The Jazz have been complete non-participants in free agency, and post-Rudy trade, there’s a Zero % chance that we go into the regular season with this current roster.

Like many on here, I think the Jazz’s lack of action on the FA market is basically a big, flashing billboard that says: “We’re flat out lying to you when we say we want to retool around Donovan and we’re stuck waiting out the Durant saga until we can capitalize on whichever team misses out on him, and throws us a ridiculous offer on Donovan out of sheer panic so we can ship him out and officially start our tank season.”

I see a few teams boxed into a corner here but none more so than Miami. They desperately want to land Durant, but cannot do so on their own, and thus far into the offseason they’ve sat on their hands waiting on KD while Boston has REALLY fortified their strength by adding Brogdon and Gallinari (both for extremely cheap prices btw) while not disrupting the core of a team that had a 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals a few weeks ago.

Miami is ****ed. I don’t see a scenario where they realistically acquire KD and once he lands in Phoenix or Toronto, their fans are going to go absolutely bat **** and want Riley’s head on a stake for twiddling their thumbs while their main competition got considerably better. On that note, Riley IS NOT the type of guy who can take his lumps on this, lick his wounds and try to close the gap next offseason. He’s gonna come out of this desperate and swinging for the fences to fix this NOW. All while his nemesis, Danny Ainge is sitting back licking his chops waiting for his phone to ring. They’ll need a 3rd team involved, but when this is all said and done, Ainge will find a way to get everything he wants out of a Donovan to Miami deal and he’ll probably find a way to force Miami to include the statue of Dan Marino that sits outside Dolphin’s Stadium so we can put it next to John and Karl. That will be really nice for me considering that I’m a long suffering Jazz and Dolphins fan and I’ll be able to visit all 3 of my hero’s that never won a ring in one visit…..

Sexton has talent but several of his teammates said he was a selfish player. We don't need another Guard unless we get rid of Conley or DM. Jazz need to find some SF who can be part of the future.
