Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Nobody here is going to care about Ryan Smith saying cash, so no surprises there.

Also, hot take, but Olynyk might just be a better player than Bogey going forward. The Jazz certainly got a boost there in their statistical projections. I just don't think it make sense to get a good player and not go for a future facing asset.

Why should anyone here care about him saving cash when he did so at the expense of the teams future. It’s obviously not the end of the world or that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things but they definitely passed on a better deal to save cash.

Unless everyone was in the understanding that the Bogey trade was strictly for saving money and were fine with it there isn’t any other rationalization for that trade. I’ve never seen an entire board in agreement on one trade before (except for Cy).
Who are you talking for? If the Jazz wanted a purely money saving move they could have gotten someone else on an expiring cheaper deal than Bogey. They got KO because they liked KO and it saved them money.

That’s the problem if we wanted to save money we should have saved even more on a different deal. We can’t even do a money saving deal correctly.

The Jazz lied about all of the people that they traded. I'm sitting here just kind of laughing at the idea that they wouldn't do the same thing with Clarkson, and that people here on this forum would take them at their word.

If the right deal comes along, Clarkson is still as likely to be traded as anyone on the roster.

I’m not directing this to you, but it’s true that anyone can be moved for the right deal. It’s just unfortunate that the right deal for Bojan was apparently Olynyk.

You're making the exact point. Nobody likes a money saving trade except for the people saving money and the people getting paid by the people saving money.

The fact that no one on the forum likes it does not mean it was a rogue decision.

Make a case for it then. We could have done a better money saving deal than this as well.

We really like Olynyk!!! The money savings was just a cherry on top!!!

What exactly does Olynyk do for us except take time away from younger players and make the team better which should not be our goal?
I would guess the thought is that he's a good mentor for the young guys, helps show everyone how to practice and be in the right places, and does very little to help us win.
(and saves $)

It's true some of these trades seem odd
But none of us have full access to player salaries, team payrolls, other trade offers, etc
We may never know exactly why certain trades are done
Team GMs always seem to hold back all info to fans for unknown reasons

I love the guys who have blind faith in the front office. It will lead to disappointment I promise you. There is a chance they made the wrong move trust me it has happened many times before. I know we’re just idiots on a message board who don’t know any better.

No, make the case that it was not a bad decision. That’s your argument lmao.

Literally never said that at all. I explicitly said it did not make sense to get a win now player. You questioned how it got signed off on by multiple people, and you answered it yourself.

It’s true that there’s a lot that isn’t seen, but not infrequently this line of thinking provides cover for when bad moves are made (anywhere, not just a Jazz thing). It appeals to the idea that the move that was made was always the best possible move. What about all of the other franchises that we deal with? Are their moves the best possible moves? Often this introduces a bias that we don’t consciously think about, where we assume our FO is the only one equipped with the ability to make the best possible move at the time, while other FOs are subject to common human frailties [I’m not speaking directly to you in this last sentence, or in what follows].

Was Tyler Lydon and Trey Lyles the best move for Denver at the time? Erik Green and cash?

I know, I know. The million dollars we got for Dominique is the only reason the Jazz are in Utah today.

Sometimes players take bad shots or commit turnovers that lose a game. It happens regularly. It doesn’t mean they aren’t pros. Often executives do that, too.

My guy, you literally just said just because everyone agreed it was a bad trade doesn’t mean it was a bad trade or a rogue decision. So make the case for why it wasn’t a bad trade or a rogue decision. Seems pretty ****ing rogue to me.

I just wanna kinda re-center on the true worst deal of the offseason, which was for THT.

You wanna talk about moves that save money? Let's talk about a "deal" that flushes money down the crapper. That THT deal was a ****ing disaster.

We are just internet message board nerds who don’t know what we’re talking about. Leave it to the professionals.

And because of that disaster, it put a REAL price-tag on taking on contracts for future money and really set the table for trading Bogey for nothing of value.
