Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Collins is an upgrade over Vando and he is a better fit next to Lauri. I wouldn't give up too much but he is talented and ready for a change of scenery.
He definitely isnt a better fit next to Lauri. He's a better fit next to Kessler than Vando is, but not Vando to Lauri.

We just watched him drop a rebound for no reason then get dogpiled on as he lost the game for his team. Not the time to cap.
To be honest, it obviously looked clumsy, but I don’t find him dropping that rebound too bad. No one expected Demar to hit nothing so his reaction time was pretty much just the ball dropping directly down from rim height. Ending up in the celebratory pile was funny though.

Ehm... why people hate on Collins? One of their best 1on1 defenders and a really athletic guy whose career has gone downwards because he is in a bad situation playing with a guy who hogs the ball and has never elevated anyone around him (except Capela, who gets 10 bunnies per game catching and putting back them Trae bricks)... Ever since 2019-20 season he has been getting reduced touches and usage, and if you look at the video it doesn't seem to add up.

Read pro scout reviews, see some videos before you call him a bum. He is a good player who in a bad situation. Even that "lowlight" video from Bulls game.... sure the ball catches him off guard and he absolutely whiffs it but see how he handles his guy (perfect box out) while Bogdan lets that Bulls rookie run from inbounding the ball to the basket unimpeded.

The biggest problem with him is his contract is now too expensive because his production has gone down so much this year. What worries me is his 3PT%... he has similar amount of attempts than before, but success rate is way down. Could be because he is mentally in a bad place.... but thats still a red flag.

If he coudlnt tell that was an airball with the best positioning possible he just isnt that good.

Lauri wasnt THAT hidden though. He had a prominent role and didnt sink to the depths of suckage that Collins has allowed himself to.

Of course, I have no idea how much of that is out of JC's control, but at the end of the day it's on the players to figure it out and make themselves higher in the pecking order. For all of Lauri's disappointment, he never fully faded on any team the way JC has.
Yes and no... Lauri and John are not the same and two situations won't ever be exactly alike. I think there are similarities you would be hoping to reproduce. I think John has done a good job adapting some on defense and raising his steal and block rates... but he isn't the shooter Lauri is so a purely offball role will make him shrink a bit more.

I'm simply saying if you get John you are hoping to duplicate some of the success you had in a Lauri deal... or some of the success the Kings had in the Huerter deal. Not everyone is cut out for Trae-ball. If my name was in trade rumors and I had to watch that dude dribble all game I'd probably check out too.

At some point I think you take the gamble you can resurrect the player he was... Maybe it isn't KO/Vando... but maybe the price gets to THT and KO levels because of their luxury tax issues. At that point the fit isn't perfect but maybe its a worthwhile bet.

It's not the best positioning possible... if he thought it would catch the rim a bit its not the end of the world. Its just one play... but it was hilarious and kinda sad.

If you see the shot at an angle, probably. But he’s pretty much straight in line with it. Then again, I have limited depth perception due to a bum eye, so who am I to give an authoritative opinion.

Even though his production has dropped Atlanta is still much better on the court with him. Their struggles are tied to Trae's ****** shooting and some injuries.

You'd be in a better position if you could see it from the side. Straight on with the hoop in front isn't perfect at all... if it was short maybe but long is tough.

Check the video again lol. Look at him before the shot is launched. I know you havent seen that much this year, but that is called boxing out.. and its a pretty elite example since he is able to keep his guy completely outside the paint even. He is the only Hawk who is actually doing his job near the paint.

Also, I’m all about getting good basketball players and worrying about fit later. Worrying about fit leads you to decisions like taking Wiseman over LaMelo and Haliburton.

Can also lead to getting Rudy when you already have KAT… I think with bigs you have to be a little careful.

John is interesting because the knock was defense and shooting early… he seems to be a helpful player on defense and until this year he’s been shooting well… if you can get the shooting back and bring back some of the rim rolling goodness that helped him put up big numbers early in his career you may have something. The fit with Lauri could be awesome in small lineups and maybe we find a big guard or 3 and D wing to supplement the deficiencies that lineup might have.

I just think if we do it then it needs to be a great deal… the type of thing you look back on in a month or two and are like “can you believe Danny got Collins for that????”.

We are coming off a good Vando game (against a terrible defense) so none of us see his issues on offense at the moment.

I’m a no on Collins. I think he’s empty calories and an opportunity cost. Unless you’re planning to use him in a trade later, but then the argument comes up of how much higher you’re going to get his value.

Anyway, I’d go buy low on both Lonzo and Jonathan Isaac. Taking a risk on those injury guys but I think it’d be a good way to cash in our current vets if there’s a possibility, with some minor draft assets. High risk but incredible reward. Plus it really heats up the tank where we can lose a lot now by trading for real people.
