World travel

Anyone ever been to Germany? In particular Kaiserslautern? I traced my ancestry all the way back to there, so hoping to go there next year, think it would be cool. How about any of the Greek islands? Thanks.
I went to Germany on my mission.. So did my wife. She was directly in Kaiserslautern for a spell. We moved back to Germany in 2015 and spent the year in Leipzig. Love that city so much. Highly recommended for a visit.

I just booked a couple trips this week for February. I'm first heading to Dubai for a few days I'm pretty excited I've always wanted to see it. No idea what I am going to do there yet. The next trip is to Morocco, then to the canary islands and then back through Portugal or a different part of Spain. I haven't booked that part yet. It should be a nice month! If anyone has any suggestions on these places let me know. They are all new places to me.

Good news is I have discovered Chinese money is in high demand where I live and I have a bunch that's a little hard to move out of the country. But plenty of options to get double or more local currency for it. It's very nice to book flights basically for basically half price along with most my costs now. We can now live off my part time work in China and my wife can save all her USA paycheck while living here.

I'm visiting Dubai for the first time. I find it to be pretty meh. I mostly came to buy a new phone since mine was stolen. But I've always wanted to check it out. It's really over priced which I expected and there are some cool buildings and places but far less impressive than I thought. I'm glad I visited but probably won't feel any need to return. Oh technically this is my second phone stolen in a couple weeks, i bought a leash for this one. Fool me once...

Next week I'm flying to Tanzania. I'm looking forward to a week on the Zanzibar beach. That's a proper vacation to me. I also booked flights to China for work which is something I thought I wouldn't do for a long time when I left 2 months ago.

We got back on Sunday from a week in Tahiti/Moorea. Got a VRBO right on the bay with a dock and watched the sting rays and reef and nurse sharks swim up.

I've been to Tahiti once, on a stop over back from the US it was oppressively hot. How was the weather?

My wife had work there and I wanted to see the place. But yes, that was a big part of my motivation. It's a little rough living without a phone these days. I can buy one in Ethiopia but it's going to be an old used model for 4-5x what the price should be. I was planning to go regardless before, but I got food poisoning and probably would have skipped it if not for wanting the phone, but I did feel much better by the time I got there. It's a really cheap flight from Addis so it's pretty easy to go since both are major hub airports for their respective areas.

Tldr: kind of.

It was good. We were a little nervous since it was the "rainy season" and supposed to get like 15 days of rain in January. We didn't really have any. On the main island the first day we got a bit of rain as we drove east, but then aside from a couple small (negligible) exceptions, we didn't get rain the whole trip. It was pretty humid and warm getting off the plane, though, in our Utah winter clothing. It could get hot if you were exerting yourself, but I think it stayed in the low to mid 80s the whole time. AC at the VRBO was a big deal, though.

I went to Mykonos, it was great for relaxing and eating. Decent night life at the small bars but it's easy to get lost in the pathways after a few drinks. 3-5 days would be plenty. I assume the other islands would be similar.

I've been enjoying your posts. Are you a real human?

okay sorry... am i interrupting anything
No, it's just that you've only posted promotional material for Vietnam tourism. It had me wondering if you were a bot unleased by the Vietnamese Tourism Advisory Board or something

Uhh, I absolutely didn't mean to chase you away or cause you to delete your posts @thietai

Look at what you've done, GF. You've driven a bot to suicide. What the hell is wrong with you? Bots have feelings, too.

Was it a bot? It seems their account is gone.
I am sure of it. If not it was just targeted ads by an organization, probably someone assigned to scour the web for certain key words then respond in chat rooms and message boards accordingly. A lot of cut and paste.

I just booked some tickets today to Istanbul. Anyone been? I'm pretty sure we have a few people from Turkey on here. Any suggestions? The Orthodox Easter is next week and I was planning to stay in Ethiopia for the holiday but the area I wanted to go is a little unsafe so I switched. I should probably wear my Jazz jerseys.
