Dame Time

Remember CP3 being such an overpay? I remember wishing we got him over Conley in hindsight. CP3 was viewed as done, but had way more in the tank than expected. That's the question with Dame. It's hard to know how much is left and how he ages. I have always loved his style and hope he lands somewhere special. No idea if utah is the right fit.

The Suns traded Oubre, Rubio and a 1st for CP3.

If we don't go to Dame, what are the other option to be good asap? i'm a bit worry Lauri may not be very happy if we suck next year.
Jazz probably won't suck next year. They didn't suck this year and that was with them trying to dismantle the roster. Not saying they will be world beaters, but look how damn weak the west is. Making at least the play in wint be that difficult

I will forever wonder if getting CP3 instead of Conley would’ve won us a championship with that group

I think it would definitely take more picks to land Dame.
I don’t know…. You’d think that they’d probably try to do right by him and send him to a team that he would want to be on. If we’re on that short list (which seems like a fair assumption), we’re basically the only team with assets that could get it done.

As far as Dame's value... I think Donovan is likely a comp. So Sexton, Ochai, 3 firsts seems pretty fair. Add in THT and Gay as expirings so we still have ability to maneuver. I think age and contract value would actually have Donovan as a more valued asset even though Dame is a better player.

It feels about right to me too... as I would want to do it for less and would be hesitant given his age and contract. Portland loves to tank so they can continue with that for a couple more years and build up the asset base of the franchise.
But Mitchell is much younger and much less injury prone.

Did you read the part where I stated Dame is older … it’s the comp with a little less because of the age and contract. There won’t be perfect comps…that is about as close as you can get to perfect.

Time to start this thread back up. Fairly certain Lillard will be available this summer.

Let’s start with this… what is the most you’d be willing to part with to trade for him?
Dame is turning 33 in July and is still owed $45,640,084 in 23/24, $48,787,676 in 24/25, $58,545,211 in 25/26, and will clearly take his player option for $63,228,828 in 26/27. That is WAY to much for him at that stage of his career. I might offer the Lakers pick plus some combination of matching salary players among KO, Fontecchio, THT, Damion Jones, Gay, Sexton (don't want to lose him). Oh and we can send them a token ham sandwich. This would clear up Portland's salary cap problems going forward so they can start over sooner while still being competitive. I'm sure they would hate the offer though so we would probably through in the 2025 Cavs pick too, but honestly that salary is just so horrible and cap restrictive at his age that I don't think I'd even want him.

This. All of this, and none of Dame please. Just way too much for an aging star as he starts to break down.

Lillard has said the two teams he would like to play for is the Jazz and Lakers. Granted that could have changed but I could see him telling Portland one of his preferences is to come here.
