Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

Trent Jr would basically be a better version of what we had in Malik, right? Not really upside for him to hit another level?
More efficient scorer, much better defender, he's 24... so likely no but who knows with that wonky team. I don't think so but I would not have thought Lauri could have this jump either.

One NBA executive quoted in this article said he thinks Clarkson gets something in the range of 3 years $40 or $45 million. If that's the case, I definitely think he will be back with the Jazz.

At that amount he would have value to an aspiring contender looking for a 6th man. That's enough above the MLE that it prices them out of the open market.

I'm fine re-signing Clarkson, but I hope they would have an itchy trigger finger on trading him after re-signing him. I'm just out on committing serious minutes and money to >30 year olds.

What I hope most of all is that the Jazz can execute a dual sign-and-trade with Clarkson and Reaves after the Jazz signal to the Lakers that they have every intention of throwing the bag at Reaves. That way, instead of the Lakers being forced into a lose-lose matching of Reaves, they can take the safer path on a cheaper and shorter deal with Clarkson.

The idea of Siakim and Lauri is very intriguing to me. Maybe not a perfect fit, but his talent is enough for me to take him over OG.

Agreed. I love his physical profile. Lots of skills. Give him to hardy and watch him bloom

I think sign and trade is the most likely solution on JC… not sure what we end up getting back but that is kinda where I see this heading.

It's kind of the only scenario that would sufficiently explain why he wasn't traded at the deadline. I'm confident the Jazz could've gotten the five 2nds that was the price for every ~MLE vet and it turns out they didn't want him contributing to wins also. I would guess they appraised his value in the Jazz's context being transformed into a different type of asset (I'm sure they're hoping for a protected 1st from somebody or an actual player in return).

I think it’s something like that. If we were to move Collin on draft night I still think JC could come back. I think it’s legit in the air and could see it go a few different ways.

I think they plan on trying to keep him and think they can sign him to a reasonable deal.

Pascal Siakam could potentially be available in the off-season. What are guys thoughts on trading for him?
Siakam is a bad shooter and defender on the perimeter. Does most other things really well but those two flaws make him a bad fit in Hardys system and in relation to our needs.

I think this off-season could potentially be wilder than last off-season. Yes, even with trading Rudy and Don. Ainge has a bag full of dynamite and he's not afraid to use it! The guy runs the Jazz like its Death Row Records and I f'n love it!
How do you figure we traded 4/5 starters for 8 draft picks, and I believe 3 swaps and 7 players, and two of the players were cornerstones to the franchise. That was the biggest off-season in franchise history!!

Not really all that interested in keeping JC. I like sexton better and would be fun to see how THT develops if he stays. All three players are similar and JC is the worst defender by far IMO

I think we’re more likely to resign him ourselves and then trade him down the road. Sign and trades seem to be few and far between because of the tax apron that it imposes on teams. A bunch of the higher tax teams are going to want to stay away from that.

Yeah they are a little more prevalent… they went away completely for a minute… some teams might consider the apron an excuse to explain them not spending crazy money… cough Lakers cough.

Are the Jazz bringing Kofi back in some way like Summer League, two way deal, Exhibit 10? It seemed like he and Juzang were signed to two way deals and then he appears playing in Japan. He led that league in rebounding edging out Jack Cooley?

Nah. Kofi is a relic. Jazz need to get more athletic and better shooting centers to backup Kessler.
Pretty sure Al Jefferson just never happens in this era. I also think Al Jefferson is a reason why teams have wised up in the last decade.
