The *OFFICIAL* Russia Is About To Invade Ukraine Thread

Some different interesting footage hit the net in the past 24 hours. This time it was a Sea Baby drone swarm taking down the Ivanovets, a medium sized Russian ship.

For those unfamiliar with them, this is a Sea Baby:

...and an older video with a better look at it in daylight:

The drones are about 16 feet long and packed with an anti-ship explosive warhead. They have thermal vision to see ships in total darkness. Ukraine received some intelligence about where the ship was going to be and they unleashed 6 or 8 of these things.

My comment was directed specifically at The Thriller's 30,000 foot view of the problem in Washington DC, which is democracy. It isn't the first comment he's made in that direction and I don't think he is wrong there but it is amusing given his earlier concerns over losing our democracy.

Specifically to your question, yes it is the Senators representing the will of their constituents. I think you are deliberately mischaracterizing the sentiment as being pro-Putin or pro-Russia because no Senator is pushing aid for Russia or even a relaxing of sanctions against Russia. There is no large segment of the American population that is pro-Putin, although disturbingly there are some because I've met one, but they're pretty rare. There is an increasing movement of people who are isolationist or at least want some sort of plan with goals that when achieved will mark a completion. The sentiment of "We're there as long as it takes" isn't sitting well with many who are asking "as long as it takes do to what?" or "until who is satisfied?". Americans who believe along those lines are increasing and Senators are duly representing that.
Yes, our national security should be put into the hands of the many and all their opinions. That's what the House is doing with the purse. Populism all around folks! Who do we bomb next, Doug?

This is politics, not defending our country, for the GOP. Its all they got now. Weakening the US, emboldening Russia to score points on the only issue Biden hasn't addressed yet. The border. The GOP is terrified he'll solve the only problem they have left to run on. Cowards, the lot.

The anti war push isn't about helping Putin it is about holding folks accountable. I think Americans are finally realizing that hey we spent how many American lives and how much money on Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Syria, Libya etc and for what? Are those places better now? Is democracy safe in Afghanistan now? Did we spread enough bombs, I mean democracy? We spent billions if not trillions of dollars on these wars with no accountability. We did create a state of the art torture program which is nice, and we succeeded in killing a bunch of American soldiers so there's that...

If we keep allowing these people to write blank checks during war they will continue to find wars to fund, its pretty simple. We spent enough money to eradicate homelessness in the US 5 times over in Ukraine so far, but we don't know how the money is being spent. Are we getting a state of the art torture program? Are we getting state of the art bio weapons facilities? We don't know, nobody in congress wants us to know, and nobody is accountable.... That's the way they like it in Washington- that's the way its been done for decades. Waste, fraud, and abuse is the rule, not the exception.

Oh wow. So repubs provide Israel with aid but not Ukraine? I bet it has nothing to do with this unholy alliance, this desire to emulate Putin and build a Russia like authoritarian dictatorship in America, right? Sad. Ukraine is on their own until Democrats retake the House.

I think it is very very possible that many of these people, like Tucker, MTG, etc., are on the take from Russia. I also think Putin does have compromising material (kompromat) on Trump. I don't know this. I don't have any evidence of this outside behaviors and them mimicking talking points straight out of the Kremlin... well and Tucker vacationing in Russia during a war the U.S. is on the other side of.

Good post.

If I had to take a guess it’s a combination of all of the above. The NRA was ripe with corrupt rubles. Wouldn’t surprise me if others had become compromised. I don’t think it’s a secret that the GOP, many rich donors, and influential leaders within the evangelical movement view Russia as a blueprint for America. Some want Putin’s help for the 2024 election (Trump obviously). And finally, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the bored arsonists just want to burn the place down. Meaning, they know that the majority of the country supports Ukraine and NATO. So they’re going against the majority of the country. These same folks are the ones who reject vaccines, claim that slavery wasn’t the cause for the civil war, and hate Taylor Swift. Really, the right resembles the late counter culture movement of the left in the 1970s.

I think so as well. Seems to me, when Trump talks about something, brings something up that he’s been accused of, and brings it up a lot, it’s usually an indication that the event, or the “something” in question, is far more likely to be true, than false. Seems like two habits that I think I’ve noted: blame others for activity you yourself commit(the most obvious being blame Biden for stealing the 2020 election, while attempting to steal the 2020 election yourself), call Biden a fascist because you are being called one, to dilute the word. Same with calling Biden anti-democratic, when, in fact, that’s Trump’s characteristic. Dilute the effect of warning Trump is a threat to democracy by claiming Biden is a threat to democracy.

Just my suspicion, really, but does seem to me when he dwells on things that have been said about him, it may in fact be because he knows what’s being said is in fact accurate..

LOL. If ever there was a test for TDS, it would be agreeing with that statement. I think most understand that being accurate or not accurate means nothing to Trump, hence the Big Lie, but what determines Trump dwelling on a thing is if the subject is Trump. He is a narcissist egomaniac who banged a porn star while his mail-order model bride was pregnant. Show me someone who thinks Trump has an out sized sense of shame and I'll show you someone who has lost the plot.

I don't think it's shame I think it's deflection, possibly subconscious.

Fake news is another example. During and right after the 2016 election there were a lot of people talking about fake news websites and Russian bot farm generated buzz about what these sites were saying and they were referring to it as fake news. Trump himself has probably said fake news more than any other human alive and it was not in reference to sham news websites, it was about CNN.

To use the term now does not mean what it meant in 2016. Trump changed the very definition of the term.

It’s sad that people alive right now are going to be dead soon all because the GOP wants to block aid to Ukraine to improve Trump’s chances of winning an election. This is so bad for America, our reputation, and our deterrence in the 21st century. If you’re another authoritarian regime, why wouldn’t you invade a neighbor, even if it were an American ally, knowing that you can probably choke out the clock and buy off the GOP?

Decisions like what the GOP is making right now will absolutely have ripple effects for the next century. Most likely, it’ll actually increase our chances of fighting a world war because authoritarians no longer fear American deterrence. If im Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Georgia, or Taiwan, im feeling nervous for what this century is going to bring.
