Republicans could nominate Haley or Romney right now. They haven’t had their convention yet. They could replace a felon candidate with a non-felon. Why don’t they?
 
I'm not politically active, so hesitant to post anything here, but I've been disappointed to see some of the reaction from Trump's conviction. I'm not on Facebook, but I am on LinkedIN and there was a post that got liked by an acquaintance talking about how the courts are rigged and this is going to lead to civil war. I went and checked the comments and there were hundreds of people agreeing with them, on LInkedIN.

My question for those who continue to support Trump is how would you know if he did something bad? If the media is corrupt and biased and the courts are corrupt and biased, how will you ever know if he has done something wrong? Like, just pretend and imagine he really did do something wrong, how would you find out?

It's about winning, morality has nothing to do with it. And it has to do with what they think will benefit them personally. The shadow racism and desire for a full plutocracy and all the financial benefits that come from eliminating tax on wealthy individuals is just too enticing. Donald is their best chance to win and maybe get the dictatorship they so desperately desire. None of them have any morals or scruples at all. Piles of human garbage who want to enrich themselves and keep anyone "different" (read: different race) from them down, you know, where they belong. Maybe we do need a civil war to weed out the human garbage.

One thing they could do is look at his history prior to running for president. This guy has been a lifelong scumbag sleazeball. This is who he is.

That's the thing though, I think trump is their worst chance to win.

Nominate Haley and either I vote for her or don't vote for anyone. There are a ton of people like myself that would do the same. Trumpers would still vote for her as well. It's not like they won't vote against Biden. But she could get millions of voters who dont like Biden but hate trump way more to vote for her or sit this one out

The fact that trump was tweeting multiple times with content intended to increase the violence while the attack was happening is unforgivable.

I also find it perfectly trumpish that he only told the rioters to go home after the rioters had already lost to the police. Surrendered once he saw that he was going to lose to try to save face.

This so much this. It’s so weird to me, sunken cost maybe? That people still defend this guy despite all corruption from years and years. This isn’t Mr Rogers being found guilty of felonies, it’s Trump. It’s like the most deserving guy. What’s ironic is that he’s got a bunch of other crimes that either haven’t been prosecuted or are being delayed BECAUSE HE IS TRUMP.

Imagine if Clinton or Obama had done what he did? Not only would they have been impeached, they would’ve been convicted. All of these other cases, Jan 6, classified files, etc had we done what he did, our asses would be in prison right now.

Yeah but the 2nd part matters, for whatever reason. Keeping people in their place. Trump is their best bet for that.

That’s the pt. In today’s authoritarian regimes, they don’t need a KGB like security system to constrain illegal thoughts. Evolution has happened. And that evolution is, “flood the zone with ****.” Enough people will just give up trying to decipher fact from fiction and will just resort to raw tribalism. That’s what we’ve seen with the GOP since 2016. It doesn’t matter what Trump says or does. It does matter what scientists say. Doesn’t matter what special counsels, judges, or juries say. There is no truth. Everyone is corrupt. Might as well stick with my team.

I do think there’s a disconnect between the general and the primary. Meaning, Trump still owns the base. The base craves the white grievance that Trump sells. That’s why he’s attractive to both billionaire tech bros who want to rule the land in CA, to bishop Hansen in Draper, UT, to grand wizard toothless cleutus butt **** from east jesus, AR. Grievance sells! Everyone loves being a persecuted victim and finding an enemy (liberals, blacks, college elitists, Jews, Muslims, da gayyyyyssss, brown Spanish speaking horde, etc). For billionaires, Trump is a useful idiot, conservative justices and tax cuts. For everyone else, he is their retribution against perceived enemies.

However, the general electorate hopefully doesn’t find that as attractive. Hopefully the general electorate isn’t so blinded by cynicism and grievance that they vote for him. We’ll soon see

The real answer to this question is simple. Trump would have to tell them he did something wrong for them to find out and believe he did something wrong. Trump is the only one they can truly trust. You know, because he has an impeccable history of trustworthiness.

How many other members feel this same way? I’d be genuinely interested. If one could conduct a poll of active members and know that their identities would be kept a secret, how many would like to see the church stop hoarding funds? I’m not a fan of City Creek like endeavors or having a portfolio worth gazillions of dollars. The church does a lot of good with its money. Why not do a lot more? Or at least start giving “tithing breaks” to single/lower income members.

I remember telling investigators in Brazil who made literally Pennies to trust in the lord, not care about bills and food and pay tithing. *cringe*
