What's new

What should we ask from Spurs for Lauri?

If we trade Lauri, it won't be because of the picks(wont mind if we get a few more, but we also kinda have too many of those already), but because one team offer us an exciting young player who has the potential to become the "new Lauri". Let's say, Jalen Williams or Cam Whitmore
But 2 top 10 picks in next years draft could give us someone better than Williams and Whitmore potentially.

2025 Atlanta
2025 Chicago
2027 Atlanta
2030 Dallas Swap
2031 Minnesota
Devontae Graham

So three extremely high quality first, a high quality swap, and a mid quality first. Graham is matching salary, allowing Spurs to keep all their players.
Honestly if we get this haul I’m trading Lauri.

I know he loves being in Utah but we’ll have rights over all the rookies anyway, so that’s a wash.

But the issue is Lauri doesn’t fit our timeline whatsoever. Keyonte and Collier and Cody won’t be ready any time soon.

So as much i I love him, it may be time to move in from Lauri.

The question is would the Spurs be down to giving up all those picks?
At the end of the day it's only 4 picks and a swap while they get to keep all their rotation pieces. They still have all their own picks and some left over picks/swaps from other teams.

The curious move at the draft was Spurs trading the pick to Minny.

Why not take another rookie?

Are they maybe looking to add “win now” pieces instead?

I get that, but you kind of need to actually be building around something and have some kind of established player, veteran, culture, etc. to grow as a team.

Short of getting a Wemby like prospect we're just gonna have a bunch of kids fighting at the table with no adult in the room. Lauri would really bring a sense of hierarchy and respect to a young team.
If we trade Lauri we have 14-15 picks through 2029. You tank a year or two then pieces. With that many assets and Prospects you can build ten ways from Sunday.

I still think we should keep Lauri. The fact that he’s a perfect fit next to Wembanyama was something that was very obvious to the hard core pro tankers in 22. I would hate seeing either the Spurs or Warriors wind up with him and eventually turning that into a championship run.
He is a perfect fit next to everyone in the NBA

Damn, nice package right there.
Could have 3 top 10 picks next draft.

Simple answer is they thought what they got back was more valuable for building/sustaining a contender (dynasty).

I'm thinking that Bridges/George smoke was our attempt to build around Lauri. Trading him is plan B most likely.

I think we can stop talking about "experts" saying Lauri would be a perfect fit for a team. Lauri would be a perfect fit for any team.
Beat me to it

NOTHING. We should ask for nothing and accept nothing from the Spurs for Laurie. Why would we create a champion level competitor for the next decade in an org that we know wont fumble the ball? We need to get to the championship level ourselves but can’t creat the biggest barrier to our own championship in our own division.
Spurs are gonna be awesome with or without Lauri
And the picks we would be getting would be other teams picks, not the spurs.

Other teams picks is the key. There’s a reason teams are trying to trade for their own picks back. Trading away someone else’s draft in a star player trade is potentially better because you don’t care if they get better or not by getting your star player. So, like the opposite of the Mike Conley trade.
