Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

Last night felt like the first time I could visibly see Cody frustrated, and it also feels like he is regressing a bit. I continue to like him getting defensive minutes against good players, but he also needs some positive offensive moments. It's a difficult balance.

it's a fair question. the answer is confidence. if you can start and play well, gaining confidence in yourself, remember that you really are a good player, that when you shoot it's going in, that can potentially do wonders.

what we don't know is whether confidence is even the issue or part of it or if he'd even play well in the g league. what you don't want is him to go down to the g league and stink it up - if confidence is the problem, you could stick a fork in him at that point.

if confidence isn't an issue and it's just that he isn't ready or just playing bad/slumping to start the season, i'd probably rather have him getting significant minutes at the NBA level as well.
Just imagine how much worse his confidence will be when his offense doesn’t cut it in the GLeague because all he can do right now is spot up shoot and straight line drive. He needs to be in the nba and get stronger and more explosive.

I don’t know what you’ve been watching but he can’t even spot up shoot right now and this is coming from one of the biggest Cody believers on here

In hindsight, we probably should have been skeptical of his ability to shoot to begin with. He only shot 41 threes at Colorado and 2.4 attempts per40. I convinced myself that it was because Colorado coaching limited threes (which is true), but he's never proven to be an accurate or volume shooter otherwise. When the volume is that low, we should probably ask how we would feel if it was 30% instead of 41%. At that volume it's not much different, especially with only 71% from the line.

If Ainge put much stock in college shooting percentages we never would have drafted Keyonte. Doesnt seem to be something they prioritize.

Key is different, his volume/degree of difficulty on his shots was very high as well as a higher free throw percentage. The 3FG% doesn't matter as much as volume and FT% to begin with, which is why I brought it up with Cody.

He’s got two issues right now: a) He’s kind of a waif. b) He hasn’t figured out how to shoot from NBA range. He’s a good shooter from about 20 feet, but his flick-of-the-wrist jumper without elevation isn’t going to make NBA 3s.

These issues aren’t going to be solved overnight. Hopefully, the coaches are pointing this out to him.

He did get bodied by three defenders on one of his drives last night and probably earned free-throws, but he wasn’t ready to play against Devin Booker. That said, he held up better defensively than our other guys.

The defensive of the ball is one of the big worries in the GLeague for me. The play there is so disorganized and unstructured. I think it can lead to some bad habits and it also would deny Cody the experience of playing against real talent and play in/against real systems.

As bad as he is on offense, he looks just fine on defense. Struggling in some areas but I think he’s exceeded my expectations.

Yes, so how much worse will it be if he can’t score at the GLeague level. So let him figure it out at this level.

The only thing Cody has going for him is being 19. Let's hope his ceiling is much higher than what he'll probably peak at. I didn't like his pick cause it reminded me of Exum and Frank N.
