Jazz trade John collins

Still pretty unreal that the Jazz traded NAW for literally nothing though. NAW was really good for us and young and helped the team we were trying to make lose make back to back WCFs.
NAW was also nearly out of hte league before coming to Utah and one good half season doesnt make you have value.

I just decided to watch a kuminga highlight video. Damn. Once of the best highlight videos out there if you are into flashy/explosive/power dunks. Rivals a LeBron/Blake Griffin highlight video (though I think Griffin has the GOAT video of all time)

Isaiah Jackson is also someone I would be taking a look at with our cap space. He tore his achilles last year, but he's young and was quite good before going down. I would be willing to work with him through his rehab and hope we get a decent center on the other side.

I mean, if we got Flagg this year I think the Jazz might ahve gone the route in using their salaries to get a star. Who knows. Just because something didnt happen doesnt mean keeping that option open was a bad move.
I don't know. The point would make more sense if I was making a post-hoc argument. This kind of outcome is pretty similar to what a few of us were saying from the get-go, so it's harder to combat a tangible manifestation with a hypothetical. But I'm actually pretty surprised by the return (taking back so much less salary and getting a second rounder), so this outcome surpassed my expectation.

You can't carry capspace like you could in the past. There is a much narrower band between the minimum salary and the cap.

The Jazz could have taken on expiring contracts each year instead of doing Collins and Clarkson. Then they would start the offseason with cap space they could then use for a star trade or to take bad salary.

@Handlogten's Heros, please take center stage and give us a good lecture about John Collins and "opportunity cost". You've been right all along, and it's time for a victory lap.
Yeah... my position was the "profit" from that deal had to be in the acquisition. The Hawks should have had to pony up the Kings pick to get that one done. Getting Collins for free likely cost us 6-10 second round picks in cap space we could have rented out. This offseason would have been killer to have going into FA with cap space when only one team had space. Made us a little better (last year it didn't matter) but maybe we do or don't have Cody...

I think this trade saves a little of that value if they get a few salary dumps. It appears Austin is more willing to take an L and build the right way... so we are headed the right direction. Mission accomplished?

I think at some level Colins was Markkenan insurance. The play a similar archetype that fits well with Kessler. I we had fould a great deal for Lauri, we had Collins.

Now, however, we still have Lauri and it looks like we are keeping him and we have Flip as Collins insurance.

Take on salary dumps with the trade exception and MLE. Fill the coffers with second round picks. No offer sheets in FA. Hold our nose for one year. Go into next offseason with a bunch of cap space and decide what you want to do with it.

Damn!! Gave up a total of 3 veterans and received a couple lessor veterans plus 2 second round picks? I don't really see the value of saving on salary if the team does not plan to sign any quality free agents. If / when they trade Markkanen, I hope they get more back.

We are absolutely not keeping Lauri, we're nowhere close and Lauri only has a tiny window left that he could hypothetically defend in the postseason.

So excited we are actually starting the re-build. I can stomach losing with young and inexperienced players that provide hope. Last year was honestly a disgrace to the game.

I remember Philadelphia getting a lot of flack for tanking several years ago. They tanked by just not signing veteran players. We had some quality players on our team and just sat them during the prime of their careers. If we were a larger market it would have gotten so much scrutiny.

I actually think the teams that picked up Sexton and Collins got really good deals. I understand that their value was different than we though, supposedly because of their defense. How good on defense could any of these guys looked when surrounded by 19 year olds on a team not really trying to win? John Collins specifically is going to have a lot more value after a year with the Clips.

0 second round picks - they gave one in the Sexton trade.

Collins, Sexton and Clarkson for Nurkic, Anderson and Love.
