I could see this being an agreement that Jazz FO made with the league. I'm glad you asked because it's definitely worth the explanation. Some NBA influencer on Instagram talking about how before the draft ,Charlotte and Washington had a deal in place to trade the 4th and 6th picks. Danny apparently intel'd that out and called Peterson, the Charlotte GM, and said that Kon wasn't originally as high on their list, but he was going to be forced to take him at 5 if a trade went through, possibly simply out of spite.

And we all know what happened haha. Legend.
