Hayward --> Bench

Wrong direction for Ty IMO.

I do not know what happened since the Memphis game, but Hayward has been on a rapid decline since then.

Since the season is Over, I want MORE youth in the starting lineup, now we will have none.

I would like to See Harris(we have no alternative), Burks, Hayward, Milsap, Kanter.

We need to give our youth crunch time minutes, let them actually shoot the ball, and make mistakes and learn.

Ty is teaching "Not to lose" instead of How to win.

Depressing season ............

Now we will get even more youth in the draft .. so what ... Ty can't even develop a digital picture, let alone NBA Talent.

I know you mentioned this in the game thread and I didn't hear or read him saying anything of the sort. If he does continue to start Howard once Bell is healthy maybe Bell goes to the bench (ya given the history it may not happen). That reminds me you keep saying Howard's starting at SG and Hayward SF, not a big deal but in reality it has been Hayward at SG and Howard at SF.

Is this where the Hayward to bench rumour is coming from?

From Tribjazz twitter:

Corbin's kept Jazz longer than normal. Just coming out.
Josh Howard said he's at Corbin's "disposal." If Corbin wants him to start, he will and won't hesitate. Same if he comes off bench.
Corbin mentioning starting Josh Howard after All-Star break came toward end of postgame interview. Corbin'll take break to think it over.
Hayward was as down as I've seen him since he joined Jazz. Eyes were red.

Also this from Locke at his new site: https://weareutahjazz.com/lockedonjazz/

Josh Howard played very well tonight and has looked better the last two nights. Tyrone Corbin said after the game they would consider starting him. Since Raja has been the most consistent player and is the best defender I would assume that means for Gordon.

Start Howard? You have got to be ****ing kidding me, Ty. This will honestly make me lose serious faith in our coaching staff. We need to ship Al, ship Harris, ship Howard, and tank one more time this season. Draft Quincy Miller and Damian Lillard. Keep Bell and Millsap. Make a playoff run next year

Lillard/Watson/Tinsley
Bell/Burks (6th man)
Hayward/Miller/sign a FA shooting specialist
Millsap or Favors
Favors or Kanter

Slowly, our line-up will become

Lillard
Burks
Hayward
Favors
Kanter
6th man: Millsap

Defensively sound team, offensively capable as well. Favors and Kanter will make one of the most formidable defensive 4/5 combos of the NBA, if their progress continues. Offensively, much has not been seen, however the tools are all there. Kanter seems to possess a good IQ for attaining an impressive offensive-repetoire, and Favors has unlimited athleticism. Our PG spot is a bit of a mystery. SHould we draft Rivers? Marshall? Lillard? Try and ship off our half of our team + picks for Rondo? Who knows. Id rather try and get a PG and an SF in this draft though, and grow our youth together. Quite frankly, I could see this team becoming more well-rounded than OKC, despite not having a superstar like Kevin Durant.

Not sure what we will get in return for Al Jefferson and Devin Harris, though. I know McHale loves Al, and Houston needs a center. Maybe get him for s late 1st router/combination of a few role players? Devin Harris and CJ: just get whatever is feasible. Even 2nd rounders, I don't care. We will need a backup center, which shouldn't be too difficult to get with all of the players that we have room to ship off of.

Hayward's downfall is that he's TOO smart on the basketball court and he expects his teammates to be on his level...which sadly 90% of them are not.

He's great at penetrating and dishing the ball, but too many times his team mates are busy just staring at him in awe and never rotate or move to a spot where they could get themselves an easy look at the basket. Jefferson is the worst at this, watch next time Gordon starts a dribble drive, 99% of the time Jefferson will just be standing there - sometimes even getting in his way!

Jefferson just needs to gtfo! Seriously! This should be Gordon's team, but it seems now, Coach Ty wants to kick him while he's down instead of helping to elevate him to reach his true potential. Sadly, if this continues, we're going to lose him to some team that can really see his potential and we'll look like a bunch of jack wagons...

Bringing Hayward off the bench might not be as crazy as it seems. His current personality might not be quite suited to starting -right now- and he might be buckling under the pressure of producing. Having him come off the bench would take the pressure off of him and allow him to find his game without feeling like he has the whole team on his back.

At the same time, Howard's mindset might be better suited TO start, which he kinda showed last night, so assuming the Jazz want to win games, having Hayward come off the bench while starting Howard could happen.

That's great. We've all been calling for the Jazz to ditch Howard for weeks. Instead, he has 1 good game, and the Jazz are thinking of retiring his jersey and building him a statue outside of ESA.

Why bother any more.

There is a chance that you are right. However, the whole things speaks to the team going backward. The vets on this team, Howard more than any, are not the future. Ty seems to be acting in desperation, to try to squeeze out another couple of wins so that maybe we can finish 10th in the west instead of 11th. He does not want to face reality. Also, he is missing a real oppportunity: there would be great patience with him if he emphasized building the youngs. But if he going to go with the vets and bench the youngs,, it better look good.

The only hope I have in starting Howard is that maybe we get two bags of doritoes for him when the trading starts.

Early in the season we all cheered when Ty said he was going to reward performance with minutes. At that time we all thought it meant the vets might sit more and guys like Hayward, Favors, Kanter and Burks could "earn time" through their efforts. Now that Hawyard has struggled for weeks people are upset at the thought of him sitting. Seems a bit contradictory to me. If it was Al struggling for the last 5 weeks and Ty said he might have to come off the bench fanz would be heard cheering miles away.
We seem a bit too fickle...

Its cuz people want Al sat for a different reason, the same reason which would explain why they would like Hayward to remain the starter.

Howard has been consistently AWFUL every night since his return from injury. He hasn't been underwhelming or disappointing, but embarrassingly awful. He had a good game last night, doing all the wrong things. He took the exact same shots he usually takes, but they happened to fall. He refused to pass the ball every time he had it in transition, but he did not turn it over. Vets continue to get minutes regardless of their performance.

The more I think about this, the worse it becomes in light of the timing. I think everyone in the organization has to think that Hayward is going to be a key member of this squad going forward for years. So it is critical to develop him properly. Last night he gives up the game losing shot, apparently very upset with red eyes over letting down his team. So, what does Ty do, go to him and say somethong like "Son, its okay. You are going to be a star in this league. The other guy just made a shot and it happens to all of us. I have all the faith in the world in you, so go back out there next game and get 'em."

No, instead he alludes to benching him. That's a great way to build a young guy's confidence.

Just a thought. Howard seems to play better when starting. Would his trade value be higher then if he started a couple of games after the All-Star Break, just before he was able to be traded on March 1st?

Even if Ty is thinking about it, he should never communicate that...sheesh.

Now Hayward has to burn a week to see if he is benched.

Like I have said many times, NBA is at least 50% mental (they all have talent).

That is why Phil Jackson was so good, he knew how to motivate.

Ty motivation techniques is that of a rookie boss with an ego.

We are in trouble if this is how Ty handle's his house.

Agreed. Combine that with the report from someone sitting just behind the Jazz bench and hearing Ty chew out CJ for taking a 3 as the shot clock expired and it ain't lookin good. I will NEVER understand hiring someone for head coach who has never been a head coach anywhere.

Or Hayward will play his *** off to prove he should be a starter. I like it.
