Marc Stein: Jazz-Warriors discuss pre-Lottery trade (Source says trade "likely")

they keep their pick this year + send Charles Jenkins + #30. We send Raja Bell + future second + next year's pick is top-3 protected

I can't decide how Jazzed (tee hee) I am at the thought of next year's pick becoming unprotected.

How bad do we think GSW will be? On one hand, they have some nice pieces with Curry, Klay, and Bogut. On the other hand, Curry and Bogut can't stay on the floor, and even though they tanked to the max, they were God-awful come the end of this season.

Anyone have any guesses where they think the Warriors fall in the lottery next year?

Hmm the 35th pick isn't quite enough. And a unprotected 1st next season is probably too much. What if they reduced the protection on the pick next year to Top 3?

Or I would rather just make the pick unprotected next year.

Also we need to remember that will still have the 47th pick. We might get luckly like we did with Milsap.

holy ****, dude. good call!

Yours is far more detailed, I would go with yours.

With the #30 pick, I take John Jenkins to solve our 3-point shooting. I'm cool with the fact that he may never be a starter, but we need shooting badly.

With the #35, I take Darius Miller if he's there but I don't think he will be. In that case, I'm taking Drew Gordon or Kyle O'Quinn. I would then assume that we trade Al Jefferson for somebody, most likely a PG or SG

With the #47, I take Kris Joseph from Syracuse because I like him.

(Possible trade?)/Harris/Charles Jenkins
(Possible trade?)/Burks/John Jenkins
Hayward/Carroll/Joseph
Millsap/Kanter/Gordon or O'Quinn
Favors/Kanter/Gordon or O'Quinn

I would be ok with that roster.

EDIT: I forgot about #47, I added that in there now.

I dont think the warriors will be worse next year, but I think GS is so desperate to keep the pick this years pick and they consider themselves playoff contenders next year, so I see them conceding protection on the pick without putting up too much of a fight.

This is what I fully expect to happen.

Warriors get pick this year no matter what. The pick becomes top 4 protected next two years and GS gives us cash.

CASH BABY! THAT WILL BE THE BIG RETURN ON THIS

Is cash a bad thing? Supposedly there are 3-4 picks in the top 20 that can be bought for $3M this year. If the Warriors give us $3M to buy our way into the top 20 AND lower the protection for future years, how is that bad.

Now if we just pocket that cash that changes things of course...

For those asking for a lot, we shouldn't forget we only have a 28% chance of screwing this up for the tankers .. it is a factor that can't be ignored. I think dropping the protection for us in '13 and getting their 30 or 35 is MAX.

Excellent question. If Curry and Bogut stay healthy they could be a 4 or 5 seed, imo. But they won't stay healthy and I think, depending upon how unhealthy they are, they'll wind up in the 12 - 15 range.

The nice thing is, that if we are able to get the the 30th, then we can possibly package the 30th with our trade exception. KOC you evil genius you.

Here's my more serious offer:

They take Raja Bell.
Pick is top 8 protected this year, top 3 protected next year, and unprotected the next.
We get 30 and 35.
They give us cash.
The offer a public statement saying that they tanked and also that Mark Jackson is an idiot.

Let me be optimistic damnit.

I agree. But, then I switched to trying to swindle them out of Charles Jenkins.

I wonder if 30 and 35 could be packaged for something around 20? Then we could grab Royce White or maybe even Quincy Miller.

How about give them the pick for a Brandon Rush sign and trade for Bell?

Long shot being I'm sure Rush would rather test free agency.

Don't want Jenkins - doesn't have 3 point range and the only good numbers he put up were during extreme garbage time.
