What's new

Boozer stands up for Utah

And that's the way it should be. It doesn't change the fact that it is not like that though. Here is a fun game for you, google, "Jewish outrage", "Mulslim outrage", "Catholic outrage", "Mormon outrage" and see what kind of results you get.

Muslim outrage = 115,000
Catholic outrage = 8,520
Jewish outrage - 7,320
Scientology outrage = 1,220
Mormon outrage = 193

I won't say anymore. Not exactly scientific, but a good little google experiment that I think has some validity.

Ignoring the fact that you failed to separate the different sects of Judaism and Islam, ever stop to think those numbers might just have a little to do with the amount of Catholics in the world compared to the amount of Mormons?

Everyone religion gets made fun of. And then people from that religion piss and moan about it. The end.

Exactly

Muslim 595/1 = 7 trillion Muslims
Catholic 44/1 = 573 million Cathloics
Jews 38/1 = 494 million Jews
Scientology 6/1 = 78 million Scientologists
Mormons 1/1 = 13 million Mormons

You're not very smart.

Mormons and Jews have comparable numbers.

Again, obviously my little google experiment wasn't serious, but I think it does confirm some real world things. According to google and comparing the numbers to the actual demographics of each religion would leave the don't **** with me depth chart like this:

1. Mulisms
2. Scientologists
3. Jews
4. Mormons
5. Catholics

I think that's pretty accurate to the real world. Mormons and Catholics are largely known as pushovers and don't really care what you say about them too much. You offend a Muslim or a Jew, you're more likely to hear about it or face real world repercussions.

Anyway, we already know Carlos is generally a bright guy. So props to him for not taking the bait. Apparently he learns from his past.

I still hate his guts and liver and pray that he doesn't come back. He's a good player, but mark my words, his stats will go down as soon as he leaves this system. Some poor team is going to be stuck with a really solid role player and a crappy contract to boot.

Please don't be the Jazz.

What if the guy said this talking about San Francisco?

Would you have a problem with that or no?

So homosexuality is a religion in your eyes? You can't compare sexual orientation to a conscious choice like religion.

Regardless, at no point was I (or anyone else in this thread, from what I can tell) defending this windbag radio DJ. The point was, all groups get made fun of, religious or otherwise. The reason no one is up in arms about what he said has nothing to do with it being about Mormons, and everything to do with the fact that he's some douchey radio DJ. This is what radio DJs do. It's not worth getting all upset about.

I never said anyone is defending him. I'm just asking a question that you avoided. Mostly just playing the devils advocate, but at the same time, you can't say to people that they can't get offended if someone makes fun their belief or religion or puts them in a stereotype. (Just so you know, I'm not offended at all) So could you answer the question?

I would say that sexual orientation is only slightly less of a choice than religion. While you do not choose whom you're attracted to, you certainly choose whom to be with. Similarly, religion is a choice in the case of converts. But for non-converts, most simply believe what they were brought up to believe (the vast majority of believers were born in that faith). So the choice was made for them. Even when/if they gain enough knowledge to make "choice" a possibility, it is often very difficult to break away from your established environment.

I believe I did answer the question, in a manner of speaking. A) You can't compare religion to sexual orientation in this case because religion is a choice and sexual orientation is not. Ragging on a group for something they were born with is far more inappropriate. In a similar vein, it would be like saying "How about those mentally disabled kids?".

B) Quite honestly, I don't care about anything this guy says because he's some pea-brained radio DJ saying things to try to elicit a certain response. That's what DJs do. That and the fact that his knowledge of the LDS church is probably limited to what he sees on Big Love. Why give his statements any credence? Why get all up in arms over the words of an imbecile?

Religion is 100% choice. I was raised by a Baptist family and here I am as an adult, having freed myself from any sort of religious branding. Upbringing might make it hard to abandon your faith, but it's certainly not a biological impossibility. You can't be biologically religious. It's not like Christians are attracted to Jesus against their will.
