What's new

Archie Moses and I went on a date.

LOL... that fish has NO koke marks on it... none, zero, zip, zilch.

Not every koke looks like the one's you see in the fishing magazines. I'm glad Trout and Archie posted a pic of what a real koke looks like.

I value TheDude's fishing opinions very much, as he's an avid Bum himself. That being said, I value mine quite a bit more. I agree that the fish looks like a rainbow. I thought as much when I first saw it, and still have my doubts. However, having handled thousands of rainbows in my life, I'd never handled one like this. The coloration was like nothing I've seen before, and again, I've caught and handled thousands of rainbows. The fact that the fellers at the docks who took a look at it both said it was a Koke was enough to sway me, but the kicker is this: I kept the fish in my little floating wire creel, and throughout the evening I noticed these little white "bubble" things coming up from below. I then noticed that fish were rising all over and I assumed that this was some sort of hatching bug and got all hot and bothered. It wasn't until I finally thought to "catch" one of these emerging bugs that I realized that they were scales that were coming off of Archibald's fish. Rainbows don't shed their scales like that.

So, while I am loath to do it, I'm going to go w/ Archie on this one. The rest of you are dumb.

I've seen you play, and I think I'll pass on the lesson -- thanks though. I'd be happy to go slaughter fish with you sometime though.

So the guys at the docks got to see the fish after it had been dead for hours? They lose a lot of their colors when they are dead.

LOL... there is no way that fish is a koke... aside from all the rainbow colorations... look at the tail. Does it have a forked tail or a rainbow tail. You know better.

BTW... if there is any chance I am wrong, then I am happy to eat crow, but I really don't see any koke characteristics. I am not lying when I say that I have caught thousands of rainbows and hundreds of kokanee. And I have never seen a Kokanee that looks even remotely close to that. I have, however, seen plenty of rainbows that look just like it.

Like I said originally, either way it is a great fish.

I note a little "tongue in cheek" there, but either way, I've caught hundreds if not more kokanee. They are one of my favorite fish to catch (At the Gorge, Strawberry, Causey, porcupine, etc etc etc). I usually smoke them. No better eating fish in Utah than smoked koke!

Do I need to get the hose out to cool you guys off? Either way, it is a cool looking fish and I'm sure they had a great time fishing. Getting in an argument online is a dumb as bringing a 12 pack of beer to a Relief Society activity or a bringing a loaded gun to the TSA scanner at the airport.
