What's new

Archie Moses and I went on a date.

Have Troust put this up on BFT and they'll settle it quickly. There might not be any fish biologists but a few of them should be.

I carpool with a fish biologist and will ask him about this on the ride home today.

Trout, do you still have the fish?

Notice how the scales are coming off all over onto the guys hands, etc. That always happens with kokes too. Not 100% sure why.

I porked a fish biologist one time. She smelled fishy HAHAHAAHA. ahhaahah. eh.

I need a drink.

Care to share what the plan of use was? I got caught creating "Wes Mamtooth."

There was really no plan. I was bored and alone so I thought I'd try and use a proxy server and hide my IP address. I thought really hard about what user name and avatar I wanted and I picked Algernon Swinburne and used his picture as my avatar. I probably wasn't going to post that much with it, but I just wanted to see if I could get away with it. I was caught in 12 hours. I know, I know, I'm a dumb-a.

I value TheDude's fishing opinions very much, as he's an avid Bum himself. That being said, I value mine quite a bit more. I agree that the fish looks like a rainbow. I thought as much when I first saw it, and still have my doubts. However, having handled thousands of rainbows in my life, I'd never handled one like this. The coloration was like nothing I've seen before, and again, I've caught and handled thousands of rainbows. The fact that the fellers at the docks who took a look at it both said it was a Koke was enough to sway me, but the kicker is this: I kept the fish in my little floating wire creel, and throughout the evening I noticed these little white "bubble" things coming up from below. I then noticed that fish were rising all over and I assumed that this was some sort of hatching bug and got all hot and bothered. It wasn't until I finally thought to "catch" one of these emerging bugs that I realized that they were scales that were coming off of Archibald's fish. Rainbows don't shed their scales like that.

So, while I am loath to do it, I'm going to go w/ Archie on this one. The rest of you are dumb.

@TroutBum How about you teach me to fish and I'll teach you how to play poker. Deal?

I've seen you play, and I think I'll pass on the lesson -- thanks though. I'd be happy to go slaughter fish with you sometime though.

Fair enough. You have had plenty of time to watch the way I play after you've been knocked out.

I'm down to fish but I dunno if I'm a serious enough fisher for a fella like you. I basically like to just hang out, and catching fish is a bonus. I can cast a line over 400 yards though, so atleast there's that.

I showed this pic to Mr. Fish Biologist. He tests fish from waters all over the state.

He said it's definitely a kokanee based on two distinguishing traits. He pulled out his magnifying glass and showed me the spots. He says the pattern wasn't important but the spots have a distinguishing shape that I was unable to determine with my untrained eyes. He has species tested thousands of these through PCR as part of his disease documenting process and has never seen rainbow trout DNA show up with this spotting characteristic. He also said the tail is a dead giveaway due to it's unorthodox lining.
