Jehovah Witnesses

This one time my class all stood up to say the pledge of allegiance and this one kid didn't stand up. Everyone figured it was because he hated America. Later he told us it was because he was a Jehova's Witness. So we all figured that Jehova's Witnesses all hate America.

True story. About 10 years ago I drove straight through from Key Largo, FL to Lexington, KY (about 17 hours). I got in around 4.am. and just fell on the recliner by the front door and crashed. I was awoken (but still mostly asleep) to the doorbell. It was literally still almost dark outside, sun coming up directly behind this little old man in a suit and tall hat. Not even knowing where I was at the moment (I jumped up at the sound of the doorbell), I see this small man, almost as a silhouette with the sun rising behind, and he says, "Welcome, sir, to the Kingdom of Heaven."

I swear I thought I had died and was like being greeted or something.. then my senses came about and I woke up a bit as he handed me the JW brochure and then I was pizzed for being woken up at like 6:30. Little *******.

I found a kids book from a JW once, it gave an example about being born into sin. It said if you bake a loaf of bread and the pan has a big dent in it then the loaf will obviously have a have a dent in it. Thats why you are born into sin, because adam sinned. I thought it was weird, but just as weird as other religions theories, so not that weird i guess. Also they come to my door every once in awhile, they are always very nice.

Not my cup of tea but they found something that works for them and that's what counts.

JWs loved seeing us missionaries down in Honduras. They'd run over, whip out their scriptures and try to fight with us. I'd just smile and greet them like old friends and it always threw them off.

Is it true they dont have windows in there bldgs cause they dont want to see all us burn at the last days?

Since they don't believe people will burn in the last days, no. That's besides the fact that the Kingdom Halls I've been to had windows.

I think they have also predicted christs coming like 10 times... just saying.

That was more of a Russell thing, and even then he hedged his bets, especially after 1910. You can find weasel-words around all the claimed predictions since then.

There's been a couple times I've had a couple hours to kill at the airport and they always have pretty interesting people stationed at the free speech area who are dying to talk to anybody. Also, they tend to be really well educated in free speech law owing to all the litigation the church has done in the area over the years.

Plus, they always have at least one wacky brochure/book they'll let me take for free. I've got several, but my favorite is "Life-How did it get here? By evolution or creation?" The title has so many questions it just keeps me in suspense about where they'll come down on it.

Although I've had my share of missionary experiences with Jehovah Witnesses which might be characterized more like showdowns at the OK Corral, there were a number of converts from JW to Mormonism in my experience too.

I don't dispute the integrity of keeping the first commandment involved in refusing to do a "Pledge of Allegiance" to any government, or the correctness of not celebrating pagan holidays, like birthdays. It's also true that while Mormons once had a theory on the Godhead that did not contradict the plain Biblical scriptures about who Jehovah is, the JWs still only got that partly right in not understanding Psalm 110, where it says the Jewish Messiah and Redeemer of Israel who would one day be sent to save Israel should sit on the right hand of Jehovah until Jehovah makes His enemies His footstool one day. . . . in the final judgment of man. And the scripture in David where it is intimated that there will be a day at the final judgment time when someone will be brought before Adam, and crowned. . . . one of many scriptural foreshadowings of the Messiah.

If these religious believers are zealous for bringing their understanding to you, I have to acknowledge a noticeable sincerity and integrity in them generally, so far as my experience goes.
