What's new

Are you ready?

Just to be clear: the states goals of the New Black Panther Party have little in common with what the original Black Panther Party was trying to achieve. It's like Stormfront claiming they are resurrecting the Bull Moose party.

Or like the way the Neo Nazis are dragging down the name of the original Nazis.

If some of Romneys white supporters are voting for him because he is white does that make them racist?

In any state where whites are the oppressed group (de facto, not necessarily de jure), voting for a black politician against a white politician because he is black would be a continuation of that racism. In any state where blacks are the oppressed group (de facto, not necessarily de jure), voting for a white politician against a black politician because he is white would be a continuation of that racism.

I don't like Al Gore, but if he won the popular vote he should have been our president. I'm all for this going both ways.

And beyond that there should have been an effort to count every vote cast in Fl. Period. If someone tried to vote for Gore it should have counted. If someone tried to vote for Bush it should have counted. The way things went down was just bad.

As it happened, depending on the counting standards, either Gore or Bush could have won. Howeve, IIRC, Gore led the popular vote by about 500,000.

I already know your stance. I want Candrews.

OK, A black person is voting for Obama because he's black. And you're asking if that action, in and of itself, makes him a racist? I don't know. They could be. I haven't really thought about it.

When I was single, I dated a couple of black girls (one was bi-racial actually) and I can say in general I preferred dating white girls. Does that make me racist? I don't think I am. Is it OK to have one preference over the other and still not be racist?

I'd say there are two ways to define racism. To just take the literal meaning of the word I would describe racism as distinguishing between races. So any acknowledgment or recognition of differences between various racial groups would be racism. No negative connotation explicitly implied. However, I think the typical usage is that racism means associating a race with specific negative traits, and/or acting on racial bias.

I'm not too hot on blondes. Doesn't mean I wouldn't hire one if they were qualified for a job I was offering, but also doesn't mean I would date someone I wasn't interested in.

I don't recall saying anyone had their name dragged down. On the other hand, I don't recall hearing the New Black Panthers offering pancake breakfasts.

I'm sure there are NeoNazis out there that have very different views from thr original Nazis.

On another day, I'll discuss that.

Candrew that means that you are racist.

There Brow we covered that.

Candrew I took your earlier post to mean that in and of itself that does not make a person racist but that the person may be one. And that it can go both ways. Fair enough.

The righties are ****ing high as kites. Obama wins and it's not even close really.
This.

It is close. You can piss and moan all you want but it is. Simple fact.

I can see one candidate win all the toss ups but I doubt it. E ven if they did it would be by close margins.

I say Romney wins, CO, FL, NC, VA, NH and OH.
I guarantee Romney loses at least 2 or 3 of those states.

For your electoral *** whipping, liberals?

If Obama gets over 300 electoral votes (meaning that Ohio could have swung either way and it wouldn't have mattered) will you acknowledge that whatever it is you've been reading that gives you such confidence that Romney will actually win is full of **** and untrustworthy?

I forgot about Scat.

Obama "open lovers"
Revo
Kicky
Thriller
Pickledxsomethingorother
Jimmy Eat Jazz
Saltydawg
One Brow
Mntbayou

At least two people on that list (OB and myself) did not vote for Obama.

Romney's got this, he is in a much better position.

A much better position to what? Win Utah?

Kicky, do you mind stating who you're voting for (or would vote for--maybe you're not registered in AZ yet or something) and why? I'm more interested in the why. Why one and not the other? In as long and detailed a version as possible. I'm actually genuinely interested as you're one of the more intelligent, well-informed, objective posters on the board.

We will see. Either way it will be close.

Since we've had a mini-debate about quants vs. simple averages in polls I'll tell you this at this point in the race in terms of how close it will be so you can judge the performance of more sophisticated analysis at a later date.

The Big 4 regression guys in this election (Silver, Linzer, Wang, and Jackman) have all converged on 332 as the most likely number of electoral votes for Obama. The second most likely is 303 electoral votes. The third most likely is 347. I suspect all of those numbers reflect a race that is not as close as you believe (personally I suspect 303 is the right number) and it will be interesting to get your take on this after we get the final result.

I voted for Jill Stein.

Arizona is non-competitive. Romney has always had the state. The real reason to turn-out is the Flake/Carmona Senate election (which Flake will probably win anyway).

I don't know if you're interested in hearing about why I like Stein as it kind of flies in the face of the premise of your question (which presumed I was voting for one of the two major candidates). Also I've been successfully trolling The Madame (who voted for Obama) by pointing out repeatedly that I'm the bigger feminist now.
