Tonight's Real Storyline: Kanter v Jonas

OK i got fooled by that static information of NBA's official page but what makes you think JV would be a better fit and get more minutes than Kanter getting, if he get picked by the Jazz over him? .

I never said he would get more minutes then Kanter - I said he is better fit for Jazz type of offense. Kanter is one on one/iso, post up type guy - same like Jefferson. JV is pick and roll player, constant motion, good passer. To me it is obvious who is better fit. On the other hand Corbin had a lot to do with drafting decision and maybe he envisions Jazz are more iso type team in the future, who knows.

JV is close to Favors' type with his deffensive presence, long arms, shot blocking ability Favors also a good pick&roll player, since Jefferson is not a long term plan for this team, someone like Kanter would be a better fit beside a player like Favors. Corbin has nothing to do with drafting desicions its all KOC. And Kanter by far was better than JV when draft night came. No one needed to make a detailed scouting report between these two players or watch a single NCAA game (considering Kanter was ineligible to play). And JV was playin at Lietuvos Rytas and gaining game experience which is highly important.

Dude, sorry but you are delusional. It is ok to be a bit homer, but come one.

Iam just joking around my friend, I know that JV is talented player too, but I think that you´re uite unfair with Kanter.

Kanter did a great job tonight, especially staying out of trouble. If he got early fouls this game could have been much different. Kudos to the Turk!

Raps board "They kept selling Valanciunas as a rim protector, with great fundamentals and bla bla bla. He's only getting destroyed every single game by every single player he's facing."

Yeah, they both are talented young guys and all our fan bickering aside looks like they are good friends on the court - did you see than hug after game? This game obviously goes to Kanter even if they where not really playing a lot vs each other. Will see what future holds.

Not the best Day shooting by Kanter, but he really crashed the boards on both ends of the floor. If he could get a consistent amount of this minutes, he really could be amazing.
I think that Jonas is not ready to play NBA-Basketball, in the Euroleague maybe, but for the NBA he is to soft at the moment. He has to get a bit stronger in the paint, Kanter has played with him just like a dummy.... But Jonas is also very talented, he could get a great Big-Man on this league, if he´s developing on his weakness.

How do you judge that? Draftexpress.com which I consider the best website when it comes to scouting international players was ranking JV higher then Kanter all the way till the draft. Chad Ford, D.Aldridge and some other dude I can't remember from ESPN had him as best rated center prior to the draft as well.
And Corbin had a lot to do with drafting Kanter, he was drooling all over him after private Chicago workout.

Kanter had 18 pts and 8 rebounds besides getting murdered half the time when he got the ball inside.

Kanter had a good game, not dominating, but good. He needs to have a mental alarm go off when there are 3 defenders on him down under the basket. Unless you have Dwight Howard's vertical you will be blocked 9 out of 10 times and the referees tend not to give you any breaks in those situations.

both will be solid players. I think the reason the jazz went with Kanter is KOC and co. loved his motor and work ethic more than anything else.

Good thing we have Favors for that.

22pts/7reb/3ast/3blks vs Duncan. Tell Duncan that.

The most important thing in the NBA is CONSISTENCY and I heared often how much the Raptor Fans are disappointed by Jonas so far. Normally he has no competition on the Center position, but still he is just getting 23. Minutes per Game as the starting Big-Man against garbage bench players. I don´t say he isn´t good, his body just isn´t ready to play in the NBA on a consistent role.

They might be rated him as best big man in his class cause all the talks going around about Kanter in draft combines that he was a closed box and he never played single NCAA game and they were reading it as a huge deficiency. On potential bases Kanter was promising more than JV but JV was a more guaranty choice for them so they might go for it and its normal.

BTW im high on JV too, dont get me wrong please. He got great potential and i want him to do well as an European big man. But right now especially when he get the chance as you saw tonight, Kanter is better than JV.

kANTER grabbed Val ,boxed out Val,moved him around like a 7 foot mannequin.Kanter owns him because he is just stronger.

Yes, i also saw that hug and it was nice.

Not a great game for Kanter but solid one. It's for sure he trusts on himself more than ever and feel more comfortable while posting up against anyone. Still his shooting is suspicious but it might be because of heavy minutes he played 1st time. He just grabbed 8 boards but challenged with everyone under the rim and boxed out the guys so the other guys collected them for us.

The question mark for me is his lateral quickness and awareness on defense. He even just did not try to stay with his man while showing up against the P n R. He either chose to press on guard or just let him pass easily. It's for sure he needs an athletic guy such as Favors who must be so good at help defense and blocks. He and Millsap were not good enough against weak Toronto team. It also sometimes seems game is still complicated for him especially on defense. He just chases his man and do not care about the cutting players or just take care of cutting players and miss his man. He's gotta work on quickness, awareness and watch lots of films to understand schemes.

For Jonas, statistics do not tell the whole story. He's so quick and athletic on his feet, his second jumb and vertical is impressive especially on offensive boards, perfect PnR player and it seems he has room to get more muscles and increase his strenght. Still, he tries to adjust NBA tempo but he's gotta learn how to avoid fouls and how to stand up directly without fouls ala Omer Asik of Rockets.
