Kirelenko in Trade talks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True story: my buddy ran into Diaw at the JFK airport last night and asked him about the trade. Diaw said he was told it's pretty much a done deal and he expects to be in Utah in the next few days.

For those of you defending this craptastic trade rumor from a financial perspective keep this in mind: the purported $18 million savings is a phantom number.

Doing some back of the envelope calculations, taking into account both seasons Diaw will be under contract (he's not opting out, that's a fantasy), and making very realistic assumptions about luxury tax payouts and future luxury tax probabilities I estimate the actual savings to the Miller family at $6.4 million with a total "ceiling" (i.e. the absolute maximum savings) of $9 million.

If you cite any number higher than $9 million, you're buying a company line designed to sell you a bad bill of goods.

Even $6 million to $9 million is in the range of cheese savings that is likely sufficient for GM and his GM to pull the trigger.

That's around what Utah saved for trading a backup PG last year.

I don't see why Melo would wanna sign a deal there. They're dumping Harris and Favors and 2 future 1st rounders...who's gonna be on their team?

PG: scrub
SG: scrub
SF: Crymelo
PF: scrub
C: Brook Lopez

Yes, I'll be very disappointed if this trade goes through. I can't necessarily fault the FO for pulling the trigger if it 100% must be done for financial reasons - none of us really understand all of the financial implications and potential consequences if the team remains this far over the LT threshold.

That being said, in no way are we a better team if this trade happens. I'll take Andrei over Diaw straight up any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Additionally, we are fans - we are not the Millers. It doesn't mean a damn thing to me if it saves them $18,000,000, I'll never see a dime of that money anyways. I just want to see the Jazz put the best team possible on the floor, and this trade does not accomplish that.
