What's new

what other teams besides Utah can offer max contract for Big Al?

I'm just curious what teams can afford big al besides us? I think re-signing big al is our first priority, i would give him max contract if thats what it takes to re-sign him. i figure if the cap is set at around 58, we still be able to keep core group in the future:

big al 15 mil
favor 12 mil
kanter 8 mil
burks 3 mil
hayward 10 mil

10 mils left for junk yard dog, rookies and few journeymen to fill out the roster.

Good Question here is what I have

Alanta Hawks: Projected Cap Room: $41 million ///of course you figure they would probably want to sign Josh Smith
Charlotte Bobcats: Projected Cap Room: $20 million /// if your planning on being left for dead play there
Clevland Cavaliers: Projected Cap Room: $32 million /// ready to bring in a Big Fish or a Big Al?
Dallas Mavericks : Projected Cap Room: $20 million /// they probably will want to sign OJ Mayo
Detroit Pistons : Projected Cap Room: $18 million /// looking for a star
Houston Rockets : Projected Cap Room: $26 million /// man if these guys grab Al were in trouble ..$26 million available to spend, they could certainly add a one more star
Indiana Pacers : Projected Cap Room: $11 million
Los Angeles Clippers: Projected Cap Room: $12 million
Milwaukee Bucks: Projected Cap Room: $20 million /// need to sign backcourt players Ellis and Jennings
Minnesota Timberwolves: Projected Cap Room: $10 million
New Orleans Hornets: Projected Cap Room: $20 million
Philadelphia 76ers: Projected Cap Room: $13 million ///Bynum, who has yet to play a game while dealing with injuries
Phoenix Suns: Projected Cap Room: $16 million /// it's unlikely any big name would be drawn to Phoenix
Portland Trail Blazers: Projected Cap Room: $16 million ///While the bench has also been an issue for the Blazers, landing a big man like Al Jefferson would look real nice next to Aldridge down low
Sacramento/Seatle Kings: Projected Cap Room: $17 million /// Like Bobcats nothing much great to say other then they have some cash to spend if needed
San Antonio Spurs: Projected Cap Room: $19 million /// I'm sure they will use this to re sign Ginobili

This brings us to the Jazz ... Projected Cap Room: $35 million /// definitely some money and talent to work with will be interesting to see how they use it

If the Jazz give Big-Al a max contract the FO will have a revolt on their hands. This may be the single biggest mistake the franchise has ever made if it happens.

Also while looking at that list it seems unlikely to me that Al gets a max offer. Unless it's a sign and trade or something else that gets him the contract.
.
There are FA's available the Jazz should be more interested in pursuing before even approaching Millsap or Jefferson in the off season.

Kanter will get more. And Burks will be MLE-level. $3M is what Roger Braille was getting.

Submitted.

The Spurs or Rockets could go after Al, once Howard decides what he's doing.
Josh Smith is leaving Atlanta, so that's another possibility for Al.
I wonder if he could somehow end up in OKC.
Another team that likes Al is Denver, who is probably going to lose Iguodala.

who else would u sign rather than jefferson? the best free agent i see is brandon jenning, but he is selfish.
Why do we have to sign someone?
Go with the youth and keep the cap space available. Teams WILL be dumping players to avoid the punitive luxury tax. With Al coming off the books this season and Marvin next year, we'll have funds available to "help" other teams with their financial situations. Either in trading for a very good veteran, or taking on a contract in the $5-$10M range in exchange for a 1st-round pick.

The problem is, I wouldn't be surprised if this is how Miller thinks.

"We have cap room, we HAVE to sign someone..."

AK would like a word with you.
AK's was bad no doubt about it. But this will hamper the ability of this franchise to keep the core4 and have anything around them. We are bad now. How bad would we be if it was Jefferson, Kanter or Favors, Hayward or Burks and a bunch of scrubs around them?
.
Also I'm not sure that AK was not a better overall player than Al when he signed the contract.
