what other teams besides Utah can offer max contract for Big Al?

who else would u sign rather than jefferson? the best free agent i see is brandon jenning, but he is selfish.
Nobody. Anybody. I'd give Favors and Kanter a max right now instead of Al. They are not worth it right now mind you. But neither is Jefferson.
.
Also Chris Paul is a FA, Andrew Bynum, They are both far superior players to Al.

Would not mind that at all. Decent player with some ability to score. Could be paired well with Favors being the defensive guy on the court and Kanter to open up the floor a little bit.

The problem is that I'd want Hickson just as a third big. Not sure if the Jazz would want him as that and not a second or first big.

No doubt that Kanter and Favors both will get at least 12 M. / year or MAX contracts once they finish their rookie contracts.

I see Hayward in the 8-10 M. / year range and Burks in the 6-8 M. / year range.

These 4 players alone will get 40 - 50 M. / year.

It's not that easy to keep the C4 if you want to get an other player for a big and long contract. We should build around Kanter and Hayward as the top 2 options on offense with Favors being the defensive stallwart and Burks the scorer and spark off the bench that gets 25-30 minutes per game.

Dream roster of the Utah Jazz (2013-2014 season):

PG Jarret Jack or Udrih (24) / McCollum (14) / Burks (6) / Lorenzo Brown
SG Hayward (20) / Burks (17) / McCollum (6) / Lorenzo Brown (5)
SF McAdoo (20) / Carroll (18) / Hayward (10)
PF Kanter (20) / Landry (25) / Favors (3)
C Favors (28) / Turiaf (10) / Kanter (10) / Salah Meijri

Draft McCollum, McAdoo and Brown if available.

Sign Jarret Jack to a 16.5 M. / 3 year deal.
Sign Carl Landry to a 21 M. / 3 year deal.
Sign Rony Turiaf to a 5 M. / 2 year deal.

Bring in SVG as the head coach.

Favors will be in his 4th and Kanter in his 3rd season.

Both were the 3rd picks with All-Star potential and have showed more than enough that they are starter caliber players.

It's about time to start both next season. Everyone can see it with the exception of our dumb coach and FO. It's getting ridiculous. Both have to start. Period.

Really? Go ahead and take a look at the extensions/contracts young bigs have gotten over the last handful of years. Plenty of doubt.

If players like Deandre and Javale get around 10/12 M. / year extensions and Omer around 8-9 M. / year, I have no doubt that Kanter and Favors will get at least 12 M. / year.

They play both ends and have more potential than the players above. Just give them freedom and 30+ mpg and let's see what kind of an extension they will get...

......not like Jefferson, huh? Who is also brain dead when it comes to running the pick and roll and defending it! If you were running our front office....we might as well take that money and dump it in the Salt Lake Sea!

Let me offer a re statement that has been said by most on this board. WHY resign and be no better than we are now. If they were stupid enough to offer Jefferson $5 bucks then coach would be forced to play him over the young guys because he's the vet bla bla bla.... There is a glimmer of hope though, they didn't persue Boozer when his contract was done because they knew he wasn't going to bring them a championship. Hopefully they haven't lost that train of thought because Jefferson has no chance of a title.

I know my opinion is not generally shared in these parts, but if we don't sign Big Al or bring in a replacement of similar caliber, we don't win more than 30 games next year.

We will need depth behind Kanter and Favors to win more game than that. But providing we do get a player or 2 to back them up I think you are wrong. If the roles of Favors/Kanter had been reversed with Millsap and Jefferson this year I actually think we win the same if not more games. The increase in defense would make up for the decrease in offense.

I'm all for it! I've barely watched any games this year because I can't stand to watch Jefferson play.

well if we are adding the depth that I have seen suggested of late (Carl Landry, JJ Hickson), we will literally have no offense.

Get rid of Al and move into the future. Let the chips fall where they may...next draft class is epic.

look at charlotte and Detroit. Young teams who have drafted some stellar players and are still bottom feeders. The problem of relying on youth is that you build them up for 3-5 years before finding out that expectations are greater than reality and so you have to put your faith in the draft and repeat the process. Developing a star out of a young player just doesn't happen that often. We should clear cap and acquire one.

We already have our C4.

Perhaps. Small market teams need to assemble most of their team through the draft... then pick up the last remaning need in FA.
I wanted to try to do that last year targeting Rondo. Loooong shot, I know..

I understand your thought process. And I would agree with you if it wasn't Jefferson we were talking about. His zero D and ball hogging on O (i do admit he's getting better at passing) will never be more than an 8th seed at best. So like I said before, Boozer/Jefferson same thing. Time to cut bait and see who steps up next.
